Trying to reduce the number of clothing items I need to bring to a travel, I'm currently stuck to find a good pair of shorts that are multi-functional: to be used in bed (freeballing is important to me), can be used for workout and swimming and - if all other things fail - cruising the streets. Must be fast drying (minutes instead of hours), have a waistband (instead of a belt) and should have pockets (back and/or cargo - ideally with zippers). Doesn't need to be super fashionable, dark (no-see-thru) colors preferred. Amaz... US or UK or Europe would be fantastic, but also other online shops are sufficient.
I used to travel a lot for work, and I never went anywhere without a pair of swimming shorts and a pair of very lightweight Nike Free running shoes. Like you say, weight and packing volume is important, and especially for items that aren't crucial to the main objective of the trip. From my experience I would say swim shorts. You can run or workout in almost anything, but clothing that isn't made for swimming usually don't perform very well at it. I never sleep in my shorts, so you're on your own as far as that goes. I would also recommend going to a sports store. When you're looking for something very specific, there's no substitute to feeling the materials and trying stuff on to see how it fits your body. I was looking for some new hiking shorts this summer, and I tried a million and one pairs... I just couldn't find one I liked. Many of them were ones I had read good reviews on and had high hopes for, but when actually trying them on in a store, it was nothing like I had imagined them to be. My swim shorts for the last 10 years or so, is a pair of O'Neills. Great for swimming, dries fast. OK pockets, a bit shallow, but velcro closure on both hand pockets as well as the back pocket keeps small items secured. And they look OK enough that I can wear them around in public without feeling weird. They are not stretchy (by choice), as it would make them dry slower, but quite short so with that limited amount of material to drag around they still work well for running and workouts. I don't remember the model name, and I'd be surprised if they're still being made, so probably doesn't matter.
Well, off-topic but it's late and people are probably drunk worldwide, so here goes... I was walking to the bus station a while back and walking ahead of me there were two teen girls speaking English. That got my attention since English is not heard much around here. Anyway, they were wearing racing swim suits and sneakers, and that's it. I guess they were on the way to a pool but I think in most places their conduct would be considered rather unusual. So, the point is it probably depends a lot where you are whether this or that attire is ok.
Nylon basketball shorts work for what you want to do. I have some from Adidas that I like and have used them for all of your requirements except the back or cargo pockets. The ones I own have 2 side pockets.
Get some nylon cargo shorts. Use a nylon military belt with a polymer buckle. You'll have to do the search. I wouldn't swim in anything without a built-in liner. Sent from my LG-V520 using Tapatalk
These look like they should do nicely! They work for swimmin' (if'n ya' know how ta' swim!). They work for jammies (especially for 'dirt naps'). An' they definitely work for 'street'wear in da hood...oh boy do they! Now...as you can see...these two nice fellows have entirely too much EDC stuff in their pockets, cuz 'der shorts is fallin' down! But...you can lighten your load up to about 25-30 rounds of 9mm, instead of the 85-90 rounds and (2) Jennings' or Ravens' (cuz one will jam for sure!) these guys are totin'. You can thank me later!
I can't speak to luxurious PJ's and fast drying swimwear, but nylon travel/hiking pants would be where I'd start my search. Most of the lightweight travel pants I own feature mesh pockets which would be perfect for water, but the mesh doesn't tend to holdup against long-term abrasion from keys etc.
DCBman: You are not funny, not clever, & and certainly not in sync with any wholesome religious or moral belief of which I am aware. I last heard that brand of humor in the early 1960s, in redneck areas of the Deep South. It was despicable then, and it still is. The U.S. is a nation of immigrants. Go back, at most 2-3 generations, in any ethnic or racial group and you will find plenty of dirty, ignorant, criminal and otherwise unsavory stereotypes or unwashed and unwanted ghetto dwellers. So no matter your background ….your ignorant stereotyping fit your ancestors and you, as you have demonstrated. Somethings never change.
