Interesting, but we could use some explanation. Is this something you made (looks like new), or is this actual WWI surplus? ...and if this is actual military issue, whose military?
@Blackheart This is a genuine new item of war ww1, which comes from a stok of a surplus store of the French army, bought years ago.
Betcha can EASILY find a manufacturer over in China willing to do so and make it quite affordable! Or Vietnam, or Thailand, or .... I can see these things hanging on accessory racks at REI and a multitude of outdoors shops for sure. Also at many luggage stores -- right next to the luggage tags. L'chaim! Moshe ben David
Simple enough to make on a lathe or on a CNC machine w/ a 4th axis --- I'm actually working out adding a 4th axis to my Nomad --- I now know what my first project will be.
Very cool but it looks like it takes up a lot of space considering you can make your own that's the size of a postage stamp and 1/4" thick
then you don't have the big wood thing you use to darn the holes in your socks. which is a arguably the most common sewing soldiers did (along with buttons) in those days. young people some big clunky things serve a purpose beside wasting space unlike me
I bet most guys today will have to look up what darn means much less know how to do it. That said how useful/hard is a darning egg that small? I'm sure it's better than nothing but what my grandmother taught me on was much bigger.
