I came across the Screwpop Utility Knife tonight.

It looks like it will be a very lightweight way to add a razor blade to my various bags and kits.

Too bad it is not available yet, but the good news is it looks like I get finally get to be the first to mention a new product around here.

I sent the manufacturer an email tonight asking for an ETA on availability and they said mid February, so not too long of a wait.

Looks really useful, I'd love to carry one myself if I weren't prone to forgetting it on my keychain when I go to school...

Looks very handy if the blade doesn't slide when it shouldn't.

Looks like a bottle opener in the mouth too! HMMMM... If it's less than $5, I might just have that RUT alternative I've been wanting.

I like it! The only draw back I see is maybe the blade would get dull fast hitting against the inside of the channel all the time?

    • Kind of bothers me that the "lockbar" is essentially retained by friction without so much as a detent in the main body. I can see the hinge loosening enough over time that pocket deployment would be a concern.
    • I really don't need yet another thing with a bottle opener. In the case of the the ScrewPop, it also makes the whole thing a bit of a pocket shredder.
    • Ditch the bottle opener and I am not sure you have something that's notably more desirable than a Gerber EAB.
    • Right now, there's a 9mm Dewalt snap blade in the bag, and sometimes I really appreciate being able to extend the blade past the normal deployment length for cutting things like rigid insulation foam.

I apologize about the originally hot linked photos, I was unaware of the policy. The policy makes a lot of sense and I understand why the images were removed.

I've received permission from the manufacturers to copy their product photos and host them on my image sharing site, so I have edited my original message to show the images again.

This thing looks like it could use a retaining O-ring or two... also, it looks like I'll be building something similar, starting with tearing apart a cheap boxcutter ;)
Basically, if I have a ready blade channel, shaping a lever won't be much of an issue. More bells&whistles could be added, then.

It's like a RUT but more affordable!
I may have to get a few of these.

It does look like to me a great way to dull a razor blade....

At first glance it looks ok, but its a bit on the long side for what it is i think. The big ring and the spare metal on the front make it unnecessary cumbersome. Yes the long form will give you a better grip but lets face it, you wont buy this for ergonomics.

Even with a bottle opener they could lose a lot of material on the front end, they could remove that big :censored: ring for a tiny one higher up and the blade retainer needs a detend of sorts.. but i feel that Mr. Rexford would not agree with something like that so i see why they went this route.

Price is OK but i personally would still prefer a EAB over this even if its double the price.

    Felt like doing paint;

Make it like that with detent-ball (or even a pressed out bulge of sorts) on the lever thing and corresponding hole in the body and ill buy one. Heck, for 7 bucks i might buy two.

    Here's a small Q&A from the website:

Q - Is the Utility Knife durable?
A - Yes. The design is very durable and works great for minor repairs.

    Q - What blades can I use?
A - The Utility Knife takes standard 2 or 4 step utility knife blades...available at any hardware store.

Q - Is the Bottle Opener easy to use?
A - Yes! However, you might have to take a couple whacks at it from different sides of the bottle cap as the opener is thin.

Q - Will the Utility Knife rust?
A - The Utility Holder won't but the blade will rust as its tool steel.

Q - Does the Utility Knife track dull the blade?
A - No. The blade stays super sharp just like any other Utility Knife!

Q - Does the Bottle Opener part feel okay in the pocket?
A - Yes. It actually feels like there's not even a Bottle Opener on it...very comfortable.

Contacted the manufacturer, asking when they'd get them in. It's almost March, and I'm really wanting one.

    EDIT:

Wow, they got back to me super fast!
They'll be getting them in the first week of March. due to the Chinese New Year, they had a delay.
