With Halloween a couple of days away this was the topic for a short call-in segment on a talk radio show I listen to in the early morning. I thought it would be a fun topic here.

Whats your favorite scarey movie and who's your favorite boogieman?

for me the movie is a toss up between Signs or the original Ammityville Horror and my boogieman is that doll Chucky.

for favorite scary movie overall, I would have to say The Strangers, as it is one of the few to scare me so much I couldn't sleep.

Favorite slasher: MIchael Myers. I will be donning a rubber mask and overalls this Thursday to scare my co workers in his honor.

Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things
    Creature from the Black Lagoon
    The Mummy (Karloff)
The Fly (1958) - to this day I have to leave the room or turn it off before the last couple of minutes. It's just too disturbing and upsetting.
Dead Silence - scared me big-time

Favorite boogeyman: Ventriloquist dummies. I'll cite Dead Silence and Devil Doll. Blacky Laguna gets an honorable mention.

    The Evil Dead 1 & 2 (groovy)
An American Werewolf in London (the change scene my be the best ever)
The Blair Witch Project (only worked that very fist showing but worked well)
And finally THE scariest movie of all time...
    Jaws
the movie itself isn't to scary but to this day if I think of that shark while swimming my heart starts racing.

the movie that scared me the most: The Ring

i was a projectionist when that came out, and we got it a few weeks before it released. myself and about 4 others screened it in the middle of the night. it was irrational but i was scared for a whole week that the little girl was gonna come kill me.

Scariest movie for me is "The Blair Witch Project". The unknown is always the scariest thing and that movie just suggests things and lets your mind fill in the blanks.

Favorite boogeyman... probably the xenomorph from "Alien".

Jaws is what did it for me. Terrified of sharks worse than a little girl. Movie and boogieman all in one for me.

And for you this is as close as I can get in my garage.

EDIT: Just to keep my boogieman in the post as well, here's a pic of me about 15 years ago when I first learned Photoshop.

Has to be The Exorcist. I was 10 years old when it was released. I watched it when it was on tv, didn't sleep for a month.

Now I'm all growed-dup I can't think of one that actually scares me. However if we go back about 40+ years to one windy night in January, 9 year old home alone, drafty old farmhouse, coal fire spluttering in the hearth, lights out and I'm watching Night of the Demon/Curse of the Demon on TV. I can honestly say it scared the hell out of me. For weeks afterwards I would run and jump into bed so I wasn't standing by the bed in case the demon was underneath.

The Shining -- creepy little girls, very scary soundtrack, and Jack Nicholson going nuts!
Blair Witch -- first watched it late at night by myself -- big mistake! I agree with Will M -- it doesn't work on subsequent showings, but freaked me out on the first.

I wouldn't have thought of Jaws until reading this thread, but when I first saw that in the theater (age 10) I lay awake for several hours, convinced a shark would come through my bedroom window........in Iowa! Can you get any further from the ocean than Iowa??

I would have to say the first movie that actually scared me was Candyman, always been a fan of Horror movies, watched all the Friday the 13ths, Freddys and Halloweens but they never really gave me that scared kind of feeling. I cant really get down with that creepy doll Chucky either..
