They did this in purple last year, guessing new color each year?

So, is this a cost saving move to save on aluminum? Would this have metal liners to retain tortional strength?

There is already a 2017 limited edition (a dark green iirc?), this is something else entirely.

If I am reading the blurb right, instead of the aluminium from Victorinox's usual sources, for the scales on this one the aluminium is sourced from the recycled pods from Nespresso machines... Odd, but interesting...

Not to sound like a pessimistic 'glass is half empty' kind of guy, but how much extra will they be charging for the recycled coffee pods?

I mean, if it's not the usual Victorinox material, but old coffee pods, the price should be lower, right?

The guys in the factory need to drink a lot of coffee for each knife though...

I meant this is the second Nespresso model, they released a purple model last year with Nespresso branding & also made from recycled pods. Just wondered if this is to become a yearly thing?

    Last years model.... http://knifenews.com/victorinox-nespresso-pioneer-swiss-army-knife/

I guess they use the same aluminum as always but "do something for the environment".
Actually I strongly doubt that they produce their own aluminum at all but that they rather buy it in sheets.
You can collect the nespresso pods and and throw them into special containers which are at many recycling places here in Switzerland, often even at gas station shops.
The purple Arpeggio color (2016) looked better to me and if they want to go through the Nespresso coffee pod line then you can get another color for the next 20 years or so...

I stand corrected - I hadn't seen the previous Nespresso version, only the 'standard' yearly knives, so assumed that was what you were meaning noting the previous purple model (like the 2016 cadet in my pocket right now...).

I've never bought a knife as a object of speculation but last year already I thought about buying the purple one for resale someday.

What do the SAK afficionados think about that idea (beyond the booh sounds of course ;) ?

Never buy a knife for investment. Doesn't really work out. Buy knives and drop it in the pocket and use the heck out of it. If you have money to invest, put it in gold coins like American gold eagles or Canadian maple leaf's.

Ultimately, SAK's (and most knives really) are pretty poor investments - Victorinox make such a wide range of knives (and in relatively high volume, even for the limited ones) that very few of them will gain any notable value - for every cool colour and limited edition, there is normally another one coming along in the near future to distract the collectors again...

So the recommendation is definitely to buy yourself a cool limited edition SAK. Only give up any hope of earning money, and stick it in your pocket and use the hell out of it instead.

Oh, I dunno. With this crowd, I'd just about guarantee an entire contingent of coin 'modders' who have put edge(s) on...!
