My question is: Do you use SAK (Victorinox/Wenger) as a backup? If yes, which model and where you have it? In backpack, in jacket (winter time) etc. Thanks for your answers. Stay safe.
I always have a SAK as well but im not sure I would necessarily say its a back up but an additional knife in its own right. Oh, its usually a 93mm SAK Soldier/Pioneer. Edit- Forgot to add its usually either on a horizontal Pouch on my belt or just in my pocket.
Victorinox Alox Cadet is my primary knife, not a backup knife. I carry it in my right front pocket. I may carry some other knife for specific tasks or just for fun, but the Cadet is my always-carry knife.
No, i don't use SAK as backup unit. But if, i would surely choose to pocket, as rangetroop, one among the 93mm line, probably an Harvester or a Rancher. Nick
The same goes for my Pioneer. It is my primary - and indeed only - actual on person EDC knife/MT. However, it often serves as a sort of backup when I'm out in the woods or mountains. When I carry a rucksack, keeping my main blade (large folder or fixed blade) on my belt is rather uncomfortable. On these occasions, the Pioneer in my pocket serves as a backup in case I lose or have to leave my pack. EDIT: If I were to choose one specifically as a backup for outdoor use, it would probably be a Camper. If I wanted a backup for EDC, I would go with the humble alox Bantam.
Just a SAK Classic on my key chain as a back up, but as school has started, it has become my main and my Cryo is my back up, if such a need should really need it.
I edc a 4-blade knife at all times--either a BSA scout knife or a Wenger Soldier. Sometimes it is primary, sometimes it is backup. I sometimes toss in a Vic Huntsman as backup to my MT du jour.
My work carry is a Vic Spirit, Opinel and a Vic executive, the executive is left front on a dangler. Sak's rule !
I carry a Vic Super Tinker as my only EDC knife. I used to carry a bigger locking OHO blade, and have found I don't miss it much at all. I think the Super Tinker is about the perfect EDC SAK.
In common with many EDCers a Swiss Army knife is all I usually need, it doesn't back-up anything. The Cadet is my favourite but I have a Climber in my travel bag and something similar sized (I don't know the models) in each vehicle glove-box. I have some other knives but no pressing need to carry any blade longer than 3" or vaguely 'tactical'.
Not all the time, I rotate several knives in and out of my pockets and EDC bag. When I do it's a Forrester in black. Not legal EDC for me so it has to be a specific job that I'm doing. Incidentally this is my first SAK and I'm liking it a lot.
My black Alox-Cadet is always on/near me. Sometimes as my primary knife, sometimes as my "back-up-knife". In my 5th pocket, in my jacket or in my bag, depends on the season.
My SAK knife is considered a backup/secondary/utility knife. I really prefer a one-handed access knife for my primary blade. The knife of choice is a Vic Huntsman, on a P7 suspension clip, Front right or left pocket. It is a lot more people friendly than the ZT.
My Pioneer has been my primary edc for the last few weeks. Frankly it's enough to handle any daily cutting task I might have and I like having the additional tools with it as well.
