    Here it is!

    Initial Impressions:

    WHAT'S IN THE BOX????
Holy crap.... lift with your legs!

Even the packaging shows a lot of forethought. It opens much like a cake box or pizza box, so no worries about cutting your precious new investment with a box cutter.

When you get through the tape and open the box, your new bag comes wrapped in packing paper, sealed in a plastic bag. This protects your bag from mailing mishaps and rain in transit... (trust me... this happens). Not to mention... the plastic keeps the wonderful smell in your bag.

    SO WHAT'D YA THINK?!?!?
    Wow... just WOW!
I've bought some expensive ballistic nylon packs in the past and have been pretty impressed with some. I've also seen some packs that just don't justify the price or the hype. This is not one of them. Everything seems to be made of high quality material, with excellent craftsmanship.

    No crooked stitches...

    SO REALLY.... WHAT'D YA THINK?????
    OK... I'll be nitpicky here.
I think the key lanyard could have been nicer.... I would suggest that saddleback remove its existing clip, or replace it with a stainless steel key clip. I'm being overly critical ...

The Saddle back key fob was a nice touch though.

Also... the grab handle doesn't leave a ton of space for large gloved hands... I'm sure this will break in with use and don't expect any issues in the future, FYI the grab handle is super comfy. I wonder if saddleback has considered making handles for the gym... It would make lifting weights fun.

    THE POCKETS?
Being an EDC'er, pockets are critical. so this can be a point of contention for some of us,
But you have to keep the intent of this bag in mind... it's not meant for "high speed / low drag" operations, It's not a messenger bag, it's not carry-on luggage... This is a briefcase... and traditional briefcases are made for the office. You open it up, and have easy access to files... folders... computers, pens, phones, tablet computers. Briefcases either stand up or... well that's it. When I go hiking I don't reach for my briefcase.

I do have two weeks of work travel coming up, and will provide an ample review of how this bag performs over the course of that business trip.

    SO....IS IT WORTH IT?
How much do you spend upgrading phones every two years.. or every year?
How much do you spend on new computers every 2 to 4 years?
How often do you need a tough bag for work that doesn't look like you're gearing up for a tough mudder?

I'd say yes... it's absolutely worth it. Check with me in two weeks after I've lugged this thing through airport after airport after airport.

I'll be curious to hear your opinion once you've used it traveling. I have a thin briefcase myself.

I have one of these in tobacco brown which I bought off of dave when he was an ebay seller and the briefcase was his only product. I think that was about 9 years ago. Except for the color, my bag looked just like yours new but has softened a lot in that time and would not stand on its own any more, instead it kind of slumps and collapses into itself when empty. I assume the same thing will happen with yours. I still love mine, even more for being so beaten up. However I admit it gets used as a travel bag only, rarely for work or edc. In the end 8 lbs was a bit too much as a tare weight for all the gear I like to carry.

They sure are heavy. And gosh, they sure show every ding and scratch life hands them. I'm way to hard on my bags and too weight-conscious to fall in love with these. . .but that said, they are lovely things. Enjoy. And please, maintain the leather :)

This is the dark coffee brown, but another forum member pointed out that "Hershey milk chocolate" would be a more appropriate name.

Beautiful.. love the Saddleback products. I want one of the duffle bags but they are a little too rich for me right now.

Digging this - I love the look of the bags. I recently retired a (lesser) leather traditional briefcase. I loved the look of it, but the lack of real detail to the seams, stitching, grips and such eventually did it in. It wasn't very weight optimized either.

Very interested in seeing how the Saddlebag does over the longer haul for you.

Saddleback is a dirty word as far as I am concerned.
