Hey guys, i have been thinking about getting a gp100 and would like to hear some opinions. Also if anyone has put custom handles on theirs I would love some pictures and info as where to get those because they are hard to find. Thanks!

Get it you won't regret it. The GP100 is a tank of a 357 it will happily eat anything you choose to feed it. Mine was very accurate and chewed up the hot stuff. I had the 3" barrel and sold it years ago it is one of the stupidest mistakes I've ever made. I figured my Alaskan 44 mag would be my woods gun and I love that as well but that 3" just balanced so well in my hand.

I will be astounded if there is one negative thing posted by anyone, about the GP100.

I'm with jeeper. Mine never let me down and was a joy to shoot. I only sold it to buy a more practical conceal carry gun. Be sure not to forget ear protection at the range though. That mag will ring your ears.

My close friend and boss has a GP100 and swears by it, it really is a beautiful gun. I have a blackhawk that has served me equally well. My point being, if its a Ruger and has six shots I don't think you can go wrong.

I have had two of them with 4" barrels and wish to hell I had kept them both. It is a hoss of gun. The pest part is that every time you pull the trigger it goes bang. No stovepipes, missfeeds and all the crap that goes with a mag fed weapon.

Love, love, love, love my 4" stainless GP100. I bought it used a few years ago for $200 and it's the absolute best buy I've ever made. Shoots everything from powderpuff 38spl to big nasty .357 mags. Ridiculously accurate and very comfortable. I popped in a lighter spring to lighten up the SA trigger pull and now it's as good as any S&W revolver I've ever owned.

Had one and wish I had it still. Maybe a little funky looking in the grip frame/hammer area compared to the Smiths. SOme have called it heavy, but it within half an ounce of the S&W 686 at the same barrel lengths. I consider it a stronger design than the 686 because of the thicker top strap.(especially if you want to tap it for a scope mount) A scoped 6" GP-100 with good hand loads is a great whitetail and hog pistol if you use it right.

From a gunsmith's perspective, the internal parts are quite roughly finished. I have worked on several and have had to work harder (vice a comparable S&W model) on deburring then polishing the contact points to obtain a smoother trigger pull.
That is the one negative that I offer; however, many owners will never have the onus to actually see this aspect of this firearm.

By far my favorite handgun I own. I have a 3" Stainless model. It took me about 6 months to find one. I had started looking just before sandy hook happened and then couldnt find anything after that. Finally, after selling one of my other guns I had some extra cash and decided to look for one again. Called a local gun store and they just happen to have 2 in stock. I rushed over and found that it was actually on sale. I immediately purchased it and took it outside. Looked through the paper work and found that it was made on my birthday. Ill never let mine go.

Its been to the range only a handful of times, but has been flawless each one. Ive shot a lot of .38spl out of it, and quite a bit of .357 as well. I need to find a decent holster so I can start carrying it.
