Thank you! Washer sounds good, need to search a little deeper, hopefully it is bronze type. I was disappointed with the teflon used in my William & Henry. Again, thank you!
Found one good break down: [Prohibited ink removed: Forum Rule 15] I am convinced. Looking for dealer to place order.
After a couple of weeks into waiting for the Higo, cancelled and ordered Shin-ZDP instead. Rockstead shipment arrived today. I ordered direct from Japan and experience on transaction along with free shipping to Hawaii was without parallel!
Reviewed my last and realized need a couple more pictures: Meeting up with a few of the old timers in the family:
There's such an exact hardness given on the birth certificate, does it mean it really has the testing dimples on it somewhere? Because to give an HRC so exactly is not to be made just for a batch, not even on a Rockstead knife...
Congrats, that's a very nice knife. I would love to get me one of these. Initial thoughts and a follow up on the edge and use would be great.
Rawls is correct on all account. In fact, most of Rockstead's ZDP individual RC I saw, are within low to high 66's. I was taken back mine shown 67.2. I need to be careful with chipping at this level of hardness. On the other hand, on my William & Henry, laser edged Hitachi ZDP, shown with a 67 RC within their design logo. I don't know if that is an accurate or actual rating.
If you find no dimple then there was no testing, at least not on that particular blade. If course they can say one knife of a hardening batch is getting tested but then it'would be more true to write ±1 or 2. But anyhow, if I'd even hit the jackpot then I'd go to see my friends in Japan, go to get a Rockstead folder and a Mitsuoka Himiko...
There is nothing readily to be found on the W&H. Probably batch random claim. No need jackpot, but only if you willing to sacrifice, like me, to chose the easier to get - good ole American horsepower:
Nah, I had my Mazda MX-5, now I have 2 little kids. So if I want a 2 seated sports car then I need a jackpot And I really like that Himiko, based on the MX-5 which I loved to drive. And well, I trust Japanese craftmanship much more, at least when it's about cars
