My Scout troop needs new hats, boonie hats.

    The hat must have:

Loops around the edge of the hat.
    Come in OD green.
    Cost under $25.00.
(If possible, come with the plastic cord-lock on the chin strap)

Now, which boonie hat brand is of higher quality? I don't want a hat that will unravel and fall apart in a week.

    Thanks

I have had some success with this hat. It is a little above your $25, but meets your other requirements.

I think I've paid maybe $15 for all of mine. They're the GI style, and have leather "cordlocks" but they've got the loops around the outside and come in a variety of colors (including green). I've got a black one, a green one, and a desert camo one.

I saw some green, black, and camo ones at Walmart a couple weeks ago. I was going to look at them and was thinking about getting one but I didn't so I'm not sure about the price.

I think mine's a tru-spec one. That thing has been my go- to hat for work and play since I got it three or four years ago. It's a tough hat, and more versatile for camping/backpacking than my Filson Packer, since it's collapsible and can stuff into a pocket. It has a leather chin strap tightener, but it's plenty fine for what it's doing. I just keep the strap tucked into one of the foliage loops in the back of the hat, it gets in the way otherwise. I sewed a name tape to the back, wrapped the foliage loops with a few feet of paracord, and beat it two inches from death and back several times. It's still ticking, although it's not very waterproof anymore and it stinks to high heaven.

Here. $10 Milspec OD green boonie by Propper, same company that makes issue gear. I have the khaki cotton ripstop version and if it's the same material it makes an excellent sun and rain hat here in FL.

I've found the leather sliders to be more than adequate for the task, and they've performed admirably several times when I've been in high winds.

you can found very cheap in ebay a Helikon boonie USMC, but in OD green, not marpat. I paid over a 18 euros shipping included.
