I have one, but i dont wear it that often, after i snapped the wire in the brim shaping it(my fault not qc issue) prefer leather myself. But all in all its a good product for the money and its lightweight

I want one. And the wind strap. Thanks for the link. I love hats but most of mine I hate to get dirty or messed up. I don't think that will be a real issue with the tarp hat:) Thats all me, brutha!

I'm interested in one, but I have an enormous melon and even the XXL might not even fit me. I'm also interested in a hat that I can bundle up and I think the wire in the brim would prevent that.

Sent from my phone. Ignore any typos.

Really like both mine....they're XXL's, and I had to put a leftover 1" strap in the hatband....but the first XL I got was too snug.
They are semi-vented with 2 grommets on each side ....I had the local shoe repair shop add an extra grommet on each side in the brim for the tiedown. Cost $4 total.
If you try to thread yer tiedown thru the factory grommets in the upper side of the hat....and the tiedown rides yer ears! you'll know why I had the brass grommets added, down on the brim, about 1" out from the 'body' of the hat..
BTW: the hats are great, but their version of a 'tiedown' is two pieces of rawhide bootlace & a bead!
Get the hat; pass on the $8 tiedown.
Here is a picture of my favorite RDB hat; not sure the added grommets show:

    Welcome!
The hats are not much "heavier" than an old-fashioned straw hat.
And the 2 grommets along each side allow some venting.
They seem to develop more character with age.

Unlike straw hats: they do not float.
One spray coating of that Scotchgard stuff adds waterproofing.
Best tiedown I've found is gutted paracord.

It was, in fact, my next order. Right before a new light. But I should be getting my hat week after next at the latest. Thanks for the link. I love hats:)

Thanks Gnarly, I'll be doing the same thing. Perhaps the gent onver at Leatherhead's, in Louisville, can help me out. Suppose I could find a shoe repair place, but Leatherhead's is a old local business in the Highlands. They've helped me out before. Great place. I thought you might know of them. http://www.theleatherhead.com/

I've been wearing mine everyday for about 2 years now. May be time for a replacement as the newly developed character is in places that I find difficult to patch. BUT, I love that hat. I had a guy say it reminded him of the sorting hat from Harry Potter.

If it were a little bigger, that might be an ideal carry-on bag - it looks really beat up, but they use decent zippers. The straps probably aren't that great, but if you modded it with some better straps it would look even worse - which could be a good thing!

I ended up going to Tandy Leather and buying some grommetts and a tool that let me hammer them on. Less than $10

Hammer gently or the tool will break, don't ask!
