I love my Pygmy, but the front pocket setup is kinda odd - why not extend it all the way to the bottom and put the shock cord thing up top? Without something in it the whole bag tips over so for now I have a slim water bottle in there, just a placheolder really but am thinking of a Tarp or Poncho in a small stuff sack - any recommendations?

    Thanks, Hakaduka

Nothing. Unless your hiking I find it useless. If something is in it, and you place your bag down, that item will probably get dirty.

I have a kind of water resistant mat / blanket.

Perfect for setting on damp ground. Have also used as a rain cover ;D

If not then a lightweight jacket.

In the spring and summer I carry an umbrella. In the fall and winter I put my stocking cap and gloves there.

Nothing usually, or an compact umbrella if it even rains in Texas again. :)

When hiking with the Pygmy, I carry a light shell that is inside a small stuff sack. The shock cord then holds onto the stuff sack. That way when I put the pack down the shell doesn't get dirty.

Nothing usually, too bad the existing cord mounts could not be turned into D-rings or lace a pouch into place. ? So the cocoon pouch ties down (never seen one up close).

NO KIDDIN' - this is brutal, feels like it will never drop below 95 (for a high) again, let alone rain.

A rolled up jacket or a blanket usually goes there.

+1 - but what do you keep in your cocoon?

I used it in the winter for a pair of gloves other than that I haven't found a great use for my EDC needs. Right now my cocoon is a small shelter kit attached on the side of Max 10x4 - works great for that role.
