Is the spear point a form of the drop point?

I voted for drop point, though my favorite shape is technically the Leaf blade. However, I own and use several "claw" bladed knives (I call them hawkbills), including two of Spyderco's reverse S blades, and I find those to be similar to Leaf blades as far as utility is concerned.

Yes, The spear point blade is the same shape as a double edge blade, but it is only sharp on one side.

Hmmm... I thought more people would of voted for the claw knives. Where are the HAK an Spyderco Cricket fans? I don't own a curved knife, is there anything wrong with them?

Drop point first, preferably big fixed blade, then SAS Dagger.

I love hawkbill knives. There is nothing wrong with them, except that you can't cut like let's say cutting a steak. But it can cut in a way that other blades can't.

I've yet to use a Tanto, so I don't know about that one. I chose drop point, because that's what I've always used. Also, I prefer a combo edge on my knives.

Hawkbills baby! Sink the tip and let it rip!! ;D

I can't believe I'm the only one who voted for the hawkbill. I'm a recovering straight blade man. I started using a hawkbill for EDC a little less that a year ago, and just can't go back. You haven't lived untill you've used a 6-inch bowie-hawk to break down coriageted cardboard. Ok, maybe you have lived, but it's still an experience to be relished. ;D

Clip is my favorite. Other good ones include warncliffe, drop point and hawkbills. My least favorite is tanto.

Yeah, I do love that knife but I mainly use it to stab holes in things. I use my Tanto Goblin or IMP for evey thing else. The 530 is soon going to be replaced by the Hideaway Straight.

Wharncliffe, then drop point, then clip point.

I have found that for most of the cutting that I do at work (lots of synthetic stuff, cables, tie wraps, MRE bags, you name it) that a wharncliffe with a nice sharp point just bites right into things that a drop point can slip off of. A hawksbill works almost as well, but I find the wharncliffe easier to control. A plain edge sheepsfoot is nice too, but can be hard to find these days.

My three current favorites for work are 1) modified Spyderco 93mm blue rescue, 2) Spyderco Spin, and 3) Queen Large Congress with D2 blades and cocobola scales.

Re: POLL - Which Blade Type Do You Prefer?

I actually like a sheepsfoot blade as I find them easy to sharpen and very strong. If I were to design a blade, it would be a sheepsfoot with just a hint of tip and a bit of belly. The old Spyderco Terzuola comes to mind.

Re: POLL - Which Blade Type Do You Prefer?

Thanks! I shoulda searched before posting.

Anyway, I like drop point or mild clip point blades. I mostly use a knife for slicing, so a bit of a belly is a requirement. I don't care too much for really pronounced clip points, as it seems to weaken the tip.

I've never owned a tanto blade, and tend to think of it as a rather specialized style.

Ditto pure sheepsfoot. Even though I mostly slice, I like the ability to thrust occasionally, too. A rescue or rigging knife would be a good application for a sheepsfoot. The modified sheepsfoot, a la the BM Griptillian 550 and Mini Grip 555 is a bit more versatile, but still not all that aesthetically pleasing to me.

Re: POLL - Which Blade Type Do You Prefer?

I still don't have a Hawkbill in my collection but I'd like to get one considering all the good things I've read about them. For some reason I always just thought of them for fisherfolk.
