This is my new North Face Surge. Needed something with more room than my maxpedition falcon and 5.11 Lima. So far it is not even close to full with my current gear. [IMG]

North Face Borealis. Lemme just say this is probably the first backpack I've bought since maybe 5th grade? With college in MI coming up in the fall, I wanted a bag that would take a lot of cold, abuse, and still look cool. I think it's 28L but I'm not sure. Couldn't possibly be happier. Fits all my crap and a ton more Only complaint is that the bottle holders don't fit my huge Nalgene... but just about nothing does [IMG][IMG]

I've had it with me all day since Thursday and I must say I'm REEEAALLLYY digging it. I struggle because I tend to require internal organization for individual items (flashlight, pens and pencils, small notebooks, usb chargers, phone, multitool, etc.) When I decided on the Dragon Egg, it was because of the admin section and how accommodating it was. As I began the load out, I determined it was better suited for a bugout bag, one that stays loaded with the majority of the items I would require. It also serves as a 2-3 day bag as it was used on this past motorcycle trip since it has plenty of room for clothing, jackets, etc. It is too much to carry around all day, even if only to and from the truck. (My truck load out is a whoooolllee other thread in itself, but allows me to not need a dedicated truck bag as my entire truck itself is essentially my edc.)

I picked up a Kavu rope sling bag at an outdoor outfitter in Georgia and LOVED it for quick and easy, civilian type usage. It's nondescript and NOT tactical at all. But being kinda goofy shaped sling bag, it was limited. I still like it if I just want something to toss phone, keys, wallet, flashlight in when shopping or running to the store, but incomplete to serve my needs throughout the week.

The 12hr battalion has plenty of room to house the handheld daily stuffs as well as large enough for me to put my 8.5x11 notebook organizer I use for work and some snacks and whatnot.

I'm a customizer. I like to make everything my own where possible. As such, I've already come up with a couple mods I'd like to make. One thing I noticed was the front most full length zipper pouch is very roomy but things tend to fall and collect at the bottom, obviously. Imagine a tool roll, unrolled and inserted into the pocket so that each slot was facing out of the zipper. Insert items horizontal to the ground. Shaped for phone, wallet, flashlight, knife, etc.

Thankfully, grayman tactical makes a rigid molle panel specifically for this bag. It attaches to the main compartment like a water bladder and allows you to attach molle pouches to it. This solves internal organization and makes it much more modular for different load outs.
All in all, the construction is fantastic. This is one of the most well made packs I've owned. The #10 YKK zips are butter!! It's very comfortable and the size is perfect. It's not too small, not too big and thankfully very slim! I love it!

    Currently running three...

North Face Router Transit, a Condor E&E Bag and an old Galls Duffle.

This carries my computers, tablets and all other goodies.

I use small bags to help organize the big compartment
    [IMG]

These carry my diagnostic tools (stethoscope b/p cuffs) and other extras, plus my cold weather gear (Arctic Bibs and other keep warm snivel gear)
