Here's a Van Halen patch that might work. You'd need to add your own velcro (it's not hard, I did it with my LanyardZone patch).

The only patch I use on a daily basis is a "Have a nice day" Smiley TAD carried a few years back. Not the mean Smiley TAD has now, but an honest to goodness hi-viz yellow smiley. It's unobtrusive, non-tacticool, and carries a sense of whimsicalness that suits me. If TAD ever brought them back I'd probably buy 10 of them in one go to make sure I have a supply of those...

Other than that, I have a Molon Labe patch from TAD (took it off after I got tired of explaining what Molon Labe meant), and a low-fiz US flag.

    Some noob's questions :

    - A philosophic one : why so much people display skulls, as EDC is more about survival than death ?
    - A practical one : why so much fun and good looking patches and very little useful patches, like blood type, social security number, phone, name and so on ? Do you have it on other gear perhaps ?
    - Is there some online service to embroid patches ?

I think it makes people feel more "bad @$$", "mall ninja", etc...I don't have any skulls on my stuff. Never really got a kick out of that. My patches are generally unit patches and nametapes.

Ummm....no. I think the bloodtype issue was discussed ad nauseum in this or another thread. Basically paramedics/emt's/hospitals won't just take the word of a patch for what your bloodtype is and will type and crossmatch anyway before they do anything with blood.

SSN and phone number...really? There is no way in #### I would put that stuff on a patch out there where any random idiot can get it.

www.nametapes.com for nametapes and unit patches.

I've seen other places that will do custom patches but it requires a minimum order, I think. I'll see if I can find the link.

Internal? In case you forget your own SSN or phone number?

Or are you thinking for EMS purposes in case you're injured? I can see putting a relative's phone number in there for that, but they should not need your social. My local hospital, doctor's etc. cannot look anything up about me by my social.

Yes, if i am unconscious or unable to communicate. In catastrophic scenarios, we can imagine relatives may not be able to be contacted by phone. I thought about SSN as it is a unique ID.

Well, I can understand wanting that, but I don't think an SSN would help there.

A lot of people carry a thumbdrive with ICE information on it...names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. Only thing is, you'd need to maintain positive control of it at all times...but to me, it would be easier to do so with that than a nametape with my SSN on it.

But I'm a little over-careful about that, probably.

Uh, are you sure? If you have ever given them your SSN, they can and will use it to look you up. When I sit in the ER triage window, it's the first search string I try when pulling up someone's records; I only search name/DOB if the SSN comes back with nothing.

Really? So you can look up someone's entire medical history by their SSN? Because all they can pull up by my SSN at my hospital is when I was there and what it was for...not my current medications, conditions, events since last visit, etc.

If not, I really don't see the point because you wouldn't have complete information for treatment purposes.

Now for billing...yeah...I know they want it for that.

Here is my truck bag. It's kind of an EDC but stays in the vehicle. Its planned to be used as a 24 hour/get home bag.
