OTF knives are legal to own but not legal to carry in Pa.

The law is sufficiently vague. I can see Philly cops abusing “lawful purpose” and the rural counties with the opposite view.

If you are "in curio" you are protected as a collector under PA law

I don't live in PA but I am curious. Any formal process to qualify for 'in curio'? Or does one just say so if and when asked?

You would simply claim it if asked and I would suggest having another piece on you as well to reinforce the idea that you are a collector

Again you guys are making an assumption that you would be making a legal argument from the back of a police car.

I'm generally not engaging in activity that would land me in the back of a police car, and I plan on keeping it that way, LOL.

Clipped to a pocket or a belt is enough probable cause in Philadelphia. People have been incarcerated for carrying an assisted opening knife commonly used for cutting sheet rock.

A knife rights organization sent the knife to multiple DA’s in PA and received replies from illegal to legal for the same knife. The opinion was consistent from metro to rural counties.

If using the “In curio” defense, be prepared to answer why you are carrying your collection in your pocket.

Exactly, be prepared as why you have and you're good. I've had everything from a 10inch duct knife to a a Walmart beater on my hip doing construction in center city and surrounding areas and have never been given a hard time

All good. I have a fellow I used to work with got caught with one . I think he got probation. It was a pretty bad situation for him. The original post was asking if it was illegal. It is. Not if you could get away with carrying one.
