Before I even start, I just want to say that I am not looking to start a flame war, or a this gun is better then that one. :)

I am just wondering if there are any people out there who have carried both of these guns, and which they carry the most after having some experience with both of them. I have done extensive research, and know the statistics on paper fairly well, and just wanted some input from people with real live experience.

I have shot both, and I tend to shoot more accurately with the glock, but the shield is a LOT easier for me to line up the sights quickly. Both fit well in the hand for me. I am a slightly thinner guy so if that has an impact on which one you would carry, I would be interested in hearing about that. In short, was there any one big turn off for you about either gun that I should take into account?

    Thanks in advance.

    Shield=summer gun (shorts and t-shirt)

G19=all other times (usually a plaid button short sleeve)

For my body size I can't carry the Glock without printing some...

    The Shield just disappears.

    IMHO, YMMV, IANAL, BR549...

Get a good holster and the Glock 19 would be my advice. What you lose in comfort from going a bit bigger you make up for in knowing that you have a firearm with more firepower and that will be easier to drive in a self defense situation. They say the best gun is the one you have with you, but let's be honest... The one you have with you isn't always the best one you could have brought. There's a saying that a gun isn't supposed to be comfortable, it's supposed to be comforting. This makes the 19 the winner in my book. You can always pick up the Shield later on if you need something for deep concealment but for normal EDC keep in mind you're already compromising by carrying a pistol instead of a rifle so make sure you can justify how big that compromise is when you think about WHY you're carrying in the first place.

    You're not wrong BTW...

    ;)

Forgot to mention in my reply above that I carry the Glock 90% of the time.

    I currently carry both.

I carry the G19 95% of the time because I shoot it better. But the other 5% is when I am forced to dress in more formal attire. Then the Shield goes in my pocket.

I really like the Shield and think it is an excellent carry gun. But the 15+1 in the gun plus a 17rd back up capacity in the G19 gives me a warm fuzzy feeling I just don't get with the Shield. I have to carry 2 spares with the Shield.

Bottom line is, buy whatever you will actually carry. If the Shield is more comfortable to carry and conceal then buy that because you are less likely to leave it behind.

Why not look into a G26?

From what I understand (and I am still new to a lot of this) Pretty much all Glocks have similar dimensions as far as the slide width goes (part of what makes a Glock easy to fix/modify?). Wouldn't that make carrying a G26 similar to carrying a G19?

I guess I hadn't quite thought about it that way. Interesting note.

All 9mm/40/357 glocks are the same width.

So the G26 is about the size of the Shield but as wide as the 19.

    My thoughts were,

"Darn, my Shield is almost as big as my G26 but the G26 has more rounds and can take G17 mags. Might as well carry the G26. Darn, my G26 with a pinky extender is just as big as my G19 but with a shorter slide and sight radius. Might as well carry the G19."

    Shield is fine for me.

Most gun fights you aren't gonna dump 15 rounds at someone. Shot placement is my concern, so I practice with that and I'm less concerned with capacity.

I like the Shields ergonomics better too. :D

Huge Glock fan here but carry my shield way more than my 19. For me it just carries better which means I carry it more often. It also means it's all I shoot in IDPA to get better since I shoot Glocks better.

Both fantastic carry choices. Carry the one that put the most rounds on target accurately and quickly.

I carry the Shield because I prefer the ergonomics and can shoot it a bit better than the Glock. That being said....I still really, really want/need a Glock 19.

I personally liked carrying my shield but I usually had my G19 in my car.

I carry a G23 everyday, unless I am carrying an even larger P229. I carry appendix IWB in a holster of my own design and manufacture. I prefer a double stack, fighting sized gun for EDC.

The Shield is very popular for carry, especially for smaller folks, it is my most popular holster by far.

Well hasn't this been such a feel-good and friendly discussion???

I'm almost disappointed that there never seem to be brand/caliber wars on EDCF...

    Almost...

Another guy with both here. I'm carrying a Shield right now, heading out to mow. Had on a G19 earlier.

I prefer the G19 for many reasons, but the Shield is an excellent pistol. I rarely carry mine with the flush fit mag, usually only when I'm tucking in.

The G19 is only slightly harder to conceal for me (carried AIWB). I shoot it much better with my off hand.
Function wise my Shields have been just as reliable as my G19s.

The Shield in a Smartcarry or belly band is great for tucking in or deep concealment.
I also prefer it when running, biking, etc.

    Fine. I'll start.

9mm is for little girls and Glocks are useless plastic toys.

    There.

    **EDIT**

Forgot to mention....If you don't own an HK you're a loser.

    And 40 S&W sucks too.

10mm will evaporate a human being that's within 100 feet of the bullet.

Bears laugh when shot with .357.

1911's are the best. Unless they suck.

.380 is for even littlier girls.

Revolvers are for old people over the age of 90.

Put XS Big Dot sights on both of them, you'll really line up shots fast, especially when moving.

I've had XS sights on both of mine. And I've removed XS sights from both of mine.

I have to say though, it is nice to get peoples opinions without having to skip over the troll posts that don't even read what the OP wrote, and only post to respond to something they took issue with.

At this point, I am thinking that may not be a bad idea. :D

I carry a Shield and like it but if you arent opposed to carrying a larger gun the Glock 19 is objectively a better gun.
