HF's Opinel 090821
HF's EDC Thread ...
Bought this from a guy in France several years ago:
Heck of a craftsman!
This Opinel Number 8 Outdoor knife has a fiberglass reinforced polymer handle, a whistle, a partially serrated Sandvik steel blade, and a shackle key that also assists opening (similar to the Spyderco hole):
It’s a radical departure from most Opinels. And it has one distinct advantage: since the handle is not wooden it doesn’t swell when damp or wet.
Some people love this model; some hate it. To me it’s not a forced choice between the traditional style versus this one: l’ve got both.
I have a few. I give up on this one LOL
Well, TS, this one was obviously made in France. Unfortunately, I’ve lost the box so don’t know its proper name.
Picked this one up at a gun show for a few bucks a couple of years ago. It’s supposed to be a skull, but, man, it looks like some sort of wooden voodoo doll:
Carbon #8 in the back pack. Great for food. Nice thin blade.

#8 is my fave right now, have a cool little #6 but the blade is approx a 91mm SAK. OK but I use the 8
Has anyone experience with the “Oclip” clip for Opinel knives?
(Before I take the plunge)
Uh... no but like a clip for a Buck or SAK, I stay with tradition for some reason.......
As do I….usually. It’s an intriguing item but I’d prefer if it fit the #6 Opinel. (My preferred size Opinel)
I backed the O clip twice on KickStarter. First time the product failed to reach the funding goal. I haven’t had any issues. Some have commented the clip turns for their pocket carry style. My carry is front left pocket without any clip turning. He should expand the clip sizes to the 6,7 and 9.
Here is a link to the funded KS page
Good info, thank You.
Agreed on the add’l sizes with the #6 being my preferred Opinel size. That said I haven’t ordered for my lone #8 yet (I may not till/if a #6 clip is offered)
#7 is in the works with a December time frame. He is self funded and originally had a tangle with the Opinel legal team when he used the name clipinel.
