I was thinking of purchasing a new knife (for under $50) and I came across the Ontario RAT-1. A lot of people seem to like it and it's pretty cheap. Anyone own one and have any things to say about it?

    Got it.
    Love it.
    Get it!

It seriously is the best value I have ever found in a dedicated folder (we're not counting SAKs, that would be unfair). The steel performs very well for day to day tasks, it locks up like a rock, FFG, strong pocket clip, comfortable handle, smooth and quick deployment, etc. The only real downsides are that it is a bit hefty and the zytel scales don't offer much grip but for the $ can't complain, it still does it's job and does it well.

Good knife for the money. Have mine in my pocket right now. Still prefer my Spyderco Manix 2 or ZT350, but for like $30 (around what I paid) it's a great value.

Under $50 bucks you have a ton of options. Off the top of my head:
    - Kershaw Skyline
    - Kershaw Volt 2
    - Rat-1
    - Spyderco Tenacious

I had a Rat-1 and reviewed it. It's definately a good budget blade. Check out those others I posted.

The RAT-1 is quite possibly the best knife you can get for that amount of money. Not sure if I'd pick it over a Tenacious, but it's sharp, well built and designed, and feels like a 80$ knife.

Not like you need another "me too," but agree with all that's been said. It's a good knife ... not just a "good knife for the money," but a good knife, one that will serve you well (without major drain on bank account).

I was skeptical when I bought mine. "How good can a 30 dollar knife be?" I scoffed. Turns out it can be really, really good. 80 percent as good as my paramilitary 2 for 25 percent of the price.

Nice! I like the color btw, i'm just trying to decide between green and tan. Also, LOVE The Walking Dead comics.

Rat 1 is one of the best knives at that price range. You can't really go wrong with it. Tough, sturdy, and can take a beating, just a tad on the heavy side though

If it fits your hand, it's an amazing knife. My hand's weird and the rat-1 isn't a spectacular fit for me, but then again, neither is a paramilitary, so take my opinion at face value.

    Other than that, great knife.

I dig mine. A little on the big side for an EDC, but for outside work or heavier jobs, it's great. mine was razor sharp out of the box, and for the price, you can't beat it. I paid around 30 for mine, but I've seen them as cheap as 20 on Amazon.

Can't speak about the big version as I only have the Rat2, but that's a very good knife. The only thing I dislike is the painted clip as the paint goes off way too early. So I etched and stonewashed it (same for the blade a bit later), very good knife for first modding attempts ;)
