I like the black iridium lenses, so then it just comes down to style. I have square wires and a pair of whiskers that I really like. The square wires for driving, the whiskers for everything else (because they stay on my head better) I had a pair of a-wires for 5-6 years before loosing them, then proceeded to lose a new pair of whiskers within a month. expensive month. I left the 2nd pair of whiskers at a friends house and she went out of town, needed glasses so bought the square wires. got the whiskers back though. I can't afford to loose any more sunglasses....
One good thing about polarized lenses is that I can use lighter tinted lenses than I would without polarization. I mostly need sunglasses while driving, skiing and sailing so I hardly use unpolarized lenses anymore. My sunglasses are all Oakley and Bollè. Optical quality seems to be about the same, but Oakley have more frames I like. Sverre
I picked up a pair of Flak-Jackets this weekend with the XLJ lens style to replace my old Oakley E-Wire 2.0s that were stolen a couple weeks back. The flak-jackets come with a zippered hard-case (that has slots for extra lenses!) so the flak-jackets are permanently riding in my Pygmy Falcon II. After driving around for two weeks with my eyes watering the entire time I knew it was time for new Oakleys. They came with the blue iridium lenses which I also had in my E-Wires; I think I'll get a pair of yellows in the near future for them too.
I love mine. Have three pairs and I am contemplating a fourth. I currently own a black pair of Flak Jackets with black iridium polarized lenses, a brown pair of Square Wires with brown polarized lenses, and pair of black Flak Jackets with yellow lenses that I use as shooting/range glasses. I am fairly sure I am gonna pick up a pair of silver framed Square Wires with black lenses. Just like the looks of them a lot. Wear sunglasses all the time when outside and especially when driving.
I have worked for Oakley in various forms and fashions for about 3 years. If anyone has any questions let me know.
Hi, I have a question about Oakley's Flak/ Half Asian fit. The customer service rep told me Flak/Half Jacket's Asian fit has not only different nose pieces but also different frame(e.g. nose bridge is narrowed), while a sale rep in O-Store told me its only difference is the nose pieces(So it is equal to buy regular Flak/Half that comes with extra nose piece. But I notice the item number of asian fit of Flak/Half on Oakley's website is actually different from regular one(It has an additional "j"). Could you please tell me who is right? Thanks a lot!
I've read several times on the Oakley Asian Fit portion of their website that they indeed do have a narrowed nose bridge. They also have less lens curvature, so that the eye area and nose bridge are straighter for flatter faces. My guess is the sales rep in the retail store either has not been fully educated on the Asian Fit series, or was trying to get you to commit to a purchase on the spot of their regular models.
In the past, the difference was little more than the nose pads. Now, however, they have changed the frames themselves. In most cases the difference is night and day.
Iv always thought Oakleys were a good brand but I am a pilot and wear Revo's myself. Granted the revos are a bit pricy but they are great sunglasses, but for the life of me i can't figure out why someone would spend the extra money on the O's Is there something just super awesome about them i dont know about?!?!?!?!?!
Well, Private Pilot Magazine ran some extensive independent tests through a lab and Oakleys did come out on top. There optics and technologies are second to none. However, in the real world people are governed by price, sometimes for the job you need them, having "the best" or "the most expensive" are unnecessary. Heck a lot of times you can do just as well with something that costs a lot less. If you care to spend the cash, or want really good sunglasses, or need the protection, they are good. just my two cents.
i like oakleys... wrecked a pair mountain biking ... scraped-up pretty badly from my forehead to the bottom of my cheek--i have to wonder what condition my eye would be in if i wasn't wearing them--the frame got pretty chewed up but the lens was in one piece although somewhat scratched. as tough as they are the mirror coating on some of the lenses scratch pretty easily. that being said, they fit me really nicely, don't slide off or move at all really. they look a little.. well, like oakleys. some people seem to have preconceived ideas about the kind of people who wear them.
I wore pilot sunglasses for decades as I was in the Air Force, they had good glass and a fairly tough frame, plus I could get them relatively cheap at the BX. Last Friday I bought a set of black Oakley Half-Jackets with the black iridium lens. I wanted a good pair of sunglasses with the impact resistance. I wore the Oakley's to the range on Saturday and the lens are very sharp and distortion free and very comfortable/nonslip in the Texas heat. These are the most expensive sunglasses I've ever purchased - I like them! Paul
Half Jackets are pretty sweet. I just got a pair of Flak Jackets through Oakley's SI program. They're a great upgrade from the Half Jacket line, with improved fit and the Hydrophobic lens coating that sheds water, sweat and dirt. Kinda like Rain-X for your shades. I have a pair of Half Jackets as backups in case I destroy or lose these. But hopefully not. Even with the SI discount, it's still a good chunk of change to replace them, so I'm going to try my best to take good care of them. ;D
On my 4th pair of Oakleys. Currently wearing a pair of Flak jackets with the G30 lenses (I think G30... they're rose lenses with black iridium coating so they look black.) Great contrast, especially on the golf course. (White stands out from the green better.) HDO coating on the lenses kicks butt. I'm a notoriously sweaty/oily guy... and I'm kinda lazy. These things are so easy to clean. The schmutz comes right off.
Thats what im talking bout im on my 3rd pair Fives Ducati and love them ALL black with Ducati red O VERY nice but not very expensive
I have a pair of m-frames that I wear at work. The frames are 11 years old, but the lens and the ear socks have been replaced 5-6 times over the years. I think they are well worth the money.
I too must confess, I am an addict... I belong to the usstandardissue deal and I where rx glasses, so it is often cheaper to get oakleys then no name lenscrafters garbage. I must have 10 pairs all in all, and of course, some bags, gloves and boots, black & tan :broke:
I have my issued M-frames. The kids managed to scratch the lens before I even wore them but they still see some use. I plan to order another pair or two from usstandardissue eventually. Right now my ESS ICE-2s get more use.
I have a pair of the X Metal XX's in the 24k iridium. I wore cheapy $10-$20 glasses for years, but now that I've been to the top of the mountain, I can never live in the valley again. They are extremely comfortable, don't even move if you swing your head left to right violently, and they are so comforting to the eyes.
Im currently lusting after a pair of Crosshairs. They cost £89.99 & I think I can get em for about £60.00
