Who all out here owns a pair of Oakley's ? They are pricey, but money well spent!!! I own about 15 different pair from the M-frames to the Juliets. O0
I went oakly about thier affiliate program since I thought it would be cool to have an Oakley banner, they rejected me. :'( I sent them an email to ask why. Maybe I can try again with them later.
Well i own the straight jacket model, with amber mirrored lenses......................I'm a glasses/contact wearer, so optics are very important for me.........especially if you have crappy vision with out! So Oakley provides me with just that..........dependable eyeware for sun protection, crystal clear optics, and this model in particular gives wrap around coverage with 180 degree vision. an oh yes, these are EDC in my pack!
Case in point. About 8 years ago, I dropped a chunk of change on a pair of Romeo X-Metals. About a year ago, several years out of warranty, I sent them in to get the lenses replaced. I also asked if they could give me quote on re-finishing them. Apparently, something in the oil on my face ate away the finsih in a few places. Less than two weeks later, I receive a brand new pair of Gold Iridium Romeo X-Metals - just like my originals . When I called them about it, they said that they considered the damage on my original pair to be a defect of the finsih, and decided the right thing to do was to replace them. During that phone call, I also learned something about their high-end glasses that I didn't know. At first, I actually ask if I could get my old frames back, because I liked the tint of the finish a bit better. They aplogized that they couldn't be returned. They had already been destroyed. The lady said, and I quote, "After all, these are handmade and we do not want inferior ones floating around." I was totally flabbergasted! As long as Oakley products continue to be top quality, they've earned my repeat business for life.
Right now I have a pair of Oakley A Wire sunglasses with black irridium lenses and a pair of Oakley Wisdom ski goggles with fire irridium lenses. They were each well over $100 US, but I think they are worth it. One of the best things about my A Wires is that they will not fall off my face. I can hang upside down and shake my head as hard as I can and they still won't move. Is this level of retention really necessary you say? Well a little while back I was rafting on the Rio Grande in New Mexico (where there are actual rapids) and the people in my raft decided that it would be fun to capsize the raft. We were mostly out of the rapids at that point but the water was still flowing very quickly. So to demonstrate what can happen if we hit a rock and do not go to the correct side of the raft, our guide instructed us to move to the upstream portion of the boat while pinned against a boulder by the water. The boat immediately flipped and I ended up undernearth for about 8-10 seconds. When I had managed to find my way back to the surface, I was amazed to find that my Oakleys had not moved an inch. More than I can say for my hat, which I spotted 50ft downstream. If you lead an active lifestyle and don't want to worry about having problems with you sunglasses, Oakleys are definitely the way to go.
I have owned Oakleys since the original Factory Pilots. Right now I have polarized M Frame Heaters and Half Jackets with high intensity yellow lenses. Great product. I read an article about Fred Perrin at realfightin.com. Apparently French thugs squirt super glue into people's eyes to disable them. I wear my Oakleys all the time, now. Jim
do they have AR coating? I hate internal reflections on my glasses. I seem to go through (cheap) sunglasses like they're going outta style, but I think it's time for me to settle on a good pair of these.
I've been wearing Oakley's since around '93 and I've never had a problem with reflections. Most of the models I've worn, though, have been close fitting, so there's very little space for light to enter from the sides. FWIW - If I was to lose my Romeo's, I would hesitate to drop the $375 to get them replaced with the Romeo 2.0. My eye's are worth it.
I have a pair of the Oakley XX - it's my first pair of Oakleys after wearing Ray-Bans for a number of years. I store them in the Large Metal Vault case, which is a bit large but is very sturdy.
Have you thought about the X Metal Soft Vault? I bought one when I got my Romeo's back in '97. It's still looks almost new, except for being dirty, and I've been very happy with it's size. It's not really soft either, unless you compare it to metal. At the time, I thought it was a bit expensive, but I now see it as money well spent.
Nope no AR. I read an independent test that tested many brands of sunglasses that AR is used at a cost. Sunglasses like Maui Jims has like 7 layers of materials like AR, polarization, etc. A light adhesive is required to put those layers on. The adhesive affects the clearness of the lens. Maui Jims ended being at the bottom of the list in terms of clarity. Oakleys were on top because they only use iridium. There are only a few models that are polarized.
I have longish eyelashes, and I keep rubbing them against the lenses. Or maybe my eyes are bulging out too much?
I've got oily skin, so it builds up on the lenses as they rub against me. That's always bugged me, but I'll take that over eyelashes rubbing. That'd drive me nuts.
Especially because I'm "weird like that" (read: anal) when it comes to clean lenses. Yeah, oily skin here too. Man, bulging eyes (they glow green, BTW), oily skin... I must look like Swamp Thing.
My girlfriend bought me a bronze pair of Oakley Dartboards for Christmas 2004 and I bought her a pair of A-wires w/polarized gold iridium lenses for the Christmas before that.
Yes - when I bought the sunglasses, the Oakley store was out of the soft vault. I decided to go with the metal case as I had just broken my last pair of sunglasses and was looking for a very protective case. You're right thogh - the soft vault definitely is a good case.
Unless you're unlucky enough to have the zipper pull snap off the first day you have it. I have another one just like it that's been going strong for 2-3 years but this last one . . . -LT
