So I spent some time in Russia - where hats are still a thing, at least in the winter. I took to it, and wear hats obsessively. Right now I have been wearing a beanie since it is winter, and I can stick it in my backpack when I am inside, but I have several other winter hats, as well, including a Russian mink fur hat (that I wear less often because it is for serious cold). I'll have to get some pictures.

Hmm... wish I had pictures of my hats... maybe later.

So, in warmer weather, I have an old, faded, beat up Dale Jr. #88 ball cap that used to be black that I use as my :censored:hat. If I'm out mowing the lawn, working in the back yard, taking out the trash, or out in the rain, it's on my head. It often has a flashlight clipped to it for taking out the trash in the dark.

When I'm out walking, I wear a tan US polo Assn. hat that was given to me as a tip by the parents of a young boy with special needs I worked with at a summer camp a few years ago. It looks good and helps me remember some of the people I used to work with and kids I knew from there.

When I'm working as a lifeguard, I have a bright red life guard hat or a brutally faded lifeguard hat with the logo of the company I worked for last summer. It's a combination of making sure folks know who and where I am and making sure the sun doesn't melt my face off.

In the pocket of my light weight jacket, I have a Duluth Shoreman's Ear Saver Cap. It's a nice a comfy fleece cap that covers my ears. It's great for medium cold days and for rainy days, since my light weight jacket doesn't have a hood. Plus, I like hats more than hoods anyway because hats don't restrict your peripheral vision.

In the pocket of my winter coat, I have a Duluth Wooly Bully hat. They call them wooly mammoth hats now. It's not the most comfortable hat as it is a little itchy where it touches my forehead because of the wool in it. But, it is warm and covers my ears and looks great.

In the pocket of my :censored:coat (a beat up ugly coat that was my Grandfather's that I wear for dirty jobs), I have an old brown ugly knit hat. It's worn, it's ugly, but it's big and fluffy and warm. Great for staying warm during dirty jobs even if I hate it.

Was out all day in the semi cold working on a mock up of a Tiger tank, getting it ready for a Battle of the Bulge WWII reenactment at the end of the month. 100% chance of dark. Enter: Maratac AAA. Always have a hat. Always have a light you can clip to it!

My dad brought a mink hat back from the Soviet Union after a military friendship exchange. Still have it. Worn it a few times, even. Sometimes at halloween along with the Soviet hockey jersey he got me. (With a red star pin for good measure!) Amazing head gear.

Now I gotta dig it out.

Today I was sporting a balaclava under a trooper hat. Both in pink. Not terribly fashionable, but it was freaking -30 out.

Here is yesterday's hat. Got it on my birthday for free with my order when my wife took me to BladeHQ. Those guys are great.

Here is my normal everyday hat right now during the winter. I walk to class and back everyday in 0-30F weather, so I need something warm.

And here is my Russian hat:

I wear a completely different set of hats in the warmer seasons, of course, but these are the main hats I've been wearing this winter.

See my Post #8, ran23: "For dress up I have a black 'snap brim' fedora that my wife has now banned me from wearing because it makes me look, according to her, "too Mafia."" (Like that's a bad thing!)

I could do with taking mine to the hat doctor, could do with some TLC.

Here's some of my ball caps. I don't wear them as much this time of year, but they make a good headlamp when combined with my Olight.

Thanks for asking the question WheelgunBob. This is fun, reading about people’s hat preferences. My favorite is a cloche made by Kangol. I wear it for golf, walking in my neighborhood, hiking in the Sierra. I have tons of golf hats in many colors but I always come back to this hat. It’s just so practical and comfortable. It’s washable, has a brim that keeps its shape, and has a toggle to tighten the head band when it’s windy. I always wear a pin on it, usually a San Francisco Giants pin or an Olympic pin.

So, here's my Duluth hats that I wear in the cold. The Wooly Mammoth kept my noggin warm today. It was 12 degrees F in the morning with a high of 27 degrees F.

The Shoreman's Ear Saver Cap(fleece) is on the left and the Wooly Mammoth (Wool blend) is on the right:

And since it's hard to really tell what they look like flat, I decided to attempt some awkward mirror selfies.
