Recently got hired by a national transportation company that has a no-weapon policy in their trucks. Thing is, I don't want to be vulnerable, but I want to follow their policy as close as possible, so I need ideas for common items that can be used to defend one's self in the truck. I've considered a ball peen or a big mag light, but my thoughts are a thrusting implement would be more effective than trying to bludgeon in that environment.
Large Maglite would be great. Serves [at least] two purposes, the obvious one shouldn't cause any problems. Something I EDC is a drum key. It's usually just a little T-shaped tuning tool that I put on my keychain or in my pocket. You can stick it in your hand (they make them in all shapes and sizes) with the bottom of it sticking out of your fingers when you make a fist.
Big maglite with one of those pointy tail caps? As said above, maybe a cane. With a sword inside... Edit, is a pocket knife a weapon, or a tool? Whatever you get, train with it though
Walking stick. Big wrench. Pepper spray. Large metal flashlight. Tire iron. Crowbar. Taser. Rolls of quarters. Unbreakable umbrella. Whistle. Dog. Length of chain. Axe handle. Axe. Sledgehammer. Pointy stick.
The large maglite is probably the one item that you can carry in multiple jurisdictions without legal fears.
The best self defense weapon (besides a gun) is a stick. Thankfully lots of things take stick form. I like the idea of a big Maglite. with LED upgrade of course. Do you drive a big truck? Dont you need a tire thumper? Also, large pipe wrench, cane, pry bar, breaker bar, socket wrench, etc. Just walk through a tool section in Sears, you will find something. I have a fire hydrant wrench in my car. Its aluminum, and about 2 feet long with pentagonal ends. I was a gift from a FDNY friend, because they use different types of Hydrants/wrenches now. If no stick type implements are allowed, get a heavy duty piece of nylon, cordura, etc. or just a heavy duty sock, and put a cue ball in it.
You profile doesn't list your locale and, in your OP, you didn't list what your transit corridor is. What your company policy is and safe ways to skirt around it is one thing. However, I would highly suggest that you look into what the laws are in the areas that you will be driving in. In CA, a tire thumper is classisified as a billy club and having it in the cab of a truck is a felony. In other states, LEOs have some discretion/latitude on what's in an out of bounds: Tire Pressure Tool (knocker/ thumper)--WEAPON?! (older post, but still pertinent). You might want to peruse this. I say go with the maglite, it can be a self defence weapon, a light, and possibly save your life if you need to use it to break a window... And if anyone asks, you use it as a light

That's funny. I used to use a somewhat larger steel baton as a tire thumper. Society on the whole was a lot less paranoid before 2001. Only one person ever questioned me about it, she wanted to know where to get one. A Sharpie marker makes a great kubotan and is about as innocuously low profile as you can get.
Lessee, I am in a "No Weapons" job myself. On my person I have: Things that go through airport security: My wits (don't laugh) Parker Jotter (Good for at least one jab) Schrade 'Tactical' Fountain pen. (Aluminum body, pointy at one end.) ASP Sapphire USB light (another force multiplier) Any of my 'real' flashlights (Surefire C3, Stinger, etc) Things that will not: Leatherman Skeletool (As a defensive weapon it's the same thing as a kubaton) Spiterco Tenacious Leatherman Surge (force multiplier/'roll of nickels') Bottle of hot sauce. (If you can find Siracha in a squeeze bottle, you have a very good OC alternative.) Small 'Air Horn'
