Not the only knife in your collection that I covet, but definitely the one that it gives me the most joy to see. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Moose! I appreciate your comments, regarding the 'gold cartouche' SERE Attack. These 'Seki-built' specimens are highly-collectible. My 5th Special Forces/MACV-SOG bowie is also, a fantastic example of the blade-maker's art. I thought it was prohibitively expensive, when I first saw-it in the case for $240 USD's back-then. I had to have-it, to go with the SERE:

You're most welcome. I can see why you had to possess that bowie. Al Mar was a true artist. (I'm so jealous, but in a nice way).

What do you think of the Al Mar SERE 2000? I owned one for a while about 10 years ago and loved the way it kept to the 'shute knife' aesthetic of the SERE Attack but was disapointed with the way the the liner lock bar was 'skeletonised'. It struck me as the wrong place to remove material from. I felt I could never fully trust it for 'harder' use (which is ironic given its raison d'etre). I ended up moving it on and getting the seemingly sturdier Presidio 520.

How do you think the SERE has fared as a knife design over the years, what with the recent releases including a flipper tab and FRN scales? Would you get one?

May I just add, my new 575 arrived today and I am seriously pleased with it. Here's a photo alongside my 520:

Thank you, sir for the warm responses! The SERE-design will always remain a true 'classic'. It was definitely designed, and manufactured by the contemporary constraints in place at the time, and survival philosophy. Namely, micarta was a 'brand-new' innovative-use, in the late-80's, as a choice for scales. Titanium as a 'new standard' was still years-away, as were the new 'super-steels' like M390. As you know, Al Mar was purchased and now has their line produced in China. Not a knock, but a fifty-dollar SERE is not-the-same as a vintage Al Mar. I collect, carry, and use large folders, so weight is not a primary obstacle to my philosophy of use, and carry regimen. Rountinely, I have both, the Benchmade Adamas, and Cold Steel 4 Max in the rotation. My answer, would probably be, yes I would buy an updated-specimen, if it were manufactured by either Benchmade, or Cold Steel. Awesome to see it done as a Benchmade auto-version. ZT could probably also do-it justice, as an assisted-opening blade model. Since Cold Steel has plenty of experience making heavy-use, stupidly-big folders, a SERE by them would be fantastic in G10, CPM-20CV, titanium-liners and a Demko 'tri-ad' locking system. Using the same 'blade-pattern' with the false swedge.

That Mel Pardue rocks, brother! Along with the 'limited edition' below-it! Peace out, cheers!

We are moving so the Para 3 has been getting a workout on top of my normal EDC.

Just touched it up on the sharpmaker and cleaned up the blade a bit. Hit the strop a dozen times and we are ready to roll again!

Blade dings, little rust on the tip and Spider Logo , minor stains on the handles.

It's not a pocket princess, it's my EDC is the way I think about it!

The Cold Steel Recon 1 is high on the 'want-list':

As Coco, in Cool Hand Luke would say: "I don't know Drag, I might have too!"
