The D shackles I found on Ebay. Outside diameter is 1.25inches. The block is a 16mm Harken. Think I got it from West Marine.
So right on SW stations disappearing--although I do pull out my number station lists and tune in every so often--just hoping--?
It's an awesome hobby and has proven quite enjoyable. Has helped keep my headspace occupied on something more joyful than the sad state of the world. It can be relatively "affordable" as long as you don't start hunting upgrades and customization...which I suspect is a primary characteristic of those on this forum lol. SW is largely uncrowded anymore save for some religious broadcasts and piecemeal stuff, at least in the US. MW (AM) seems to be going the way of the 8 track and cassette tape with more and more stations using the internet and streaming, and then there’s satellite radio.
You are so right--and it's such a shame---For several years I ran my own pirate FM radio on the weekend late nights---until that is, when I would confide in people what I did---they would say---"Oh when do you broadcast--we'll go out and sit in our car and listen." I disassembled everything---it just didn't make sense any longer---?
Not because of the pandemic. Hospital maintenance is considered essential. But I have been off 2 months for foot surgery I set up a plywood table just outside of the back door. I have been cooking camping/trail type meals . It gets me outside.

I also "discovered" Live Cams.... Sitting at night computing I have another screen running different live cams--the ISS live cam---a small town in Iceland stykkisholmur has a live cam of their town and the harbor---the cams are strangely calming...?
I have become a jigsaw puzzler. I think I went 30 years without assembling a puzzle but, in the past year, I’ve completed about ten. I have fallen in love with wooden puzzles, but they’re insanely expensive.
My wife is a big fan of the artist Monet. I bought her this HUGE puzzle of one of his Water Lilies paintings for Christmas because she said she'd like to get into puzzles. After about 3 hours of sorting pieces and only putting together a few, she pronounced it impossible. So last week for her birthday I bought her a canvas reproduction of the painting and told her, no assembly required.
Hmmm... I've gotten pretty serious about smoking things... Also have gotten WAAAAAAAAAAY to serious about whiskey... Shockingly, after my most recent physical, both my cholesterol and liver function tested great. The only thing that would shocked me more was the Doc telling me I was pregnant.
