Relatively new to EDC in a since, but have been doing it most I my life without knowing it also. I stumbled upon this forum searching for multitool mods and then started poking around with everything else it has to offer. I figured out pretty quickly this was a place for me to learn a fair amount of stuff about things I'm interested in.

My screen name is representative of that fact that I :drumroll:.....climb trees for a living. Who would've thought right? Anyways I hope to have a good time here and thanks for everything that I've already learned from browsing.

    Welcome!

So, I gotta ask, why do you climb trees? :)
Lumber/timber industry limbing and topping trees is the only profession I can think of that climbs trees, but most of that work is machine done these days I thought...

I work for an electric company maintaining the right of ways. It involves a lot of manual climbing trees. So that is why I climb trees

Ah! Gotcha! Do you do electrical/wire/pole maintenance, or is this different than the average linemans position where you are?

I've almost applied to lineman positions before, but our Extreme weather that usually casuses a lot of need for that kind of work(like the 50 to 60 mph wind storm we had last month) is Not the kind of weather I want called out into to fix/clear electrical lines. ;)

Here the trees don't really get climbed much for that, just trimmed from the ground, or cut down; they're either too small or too bushy to bother climbing to work with, so I never would have thought of a lineman/right of way crew doing tree climbing(unless you consider a telephone/power pole a tree ;) :p)

We just do the tree aspects of it, not climbing poles and putting lines back up. We are a contractor for the power company that just maintains right of ways. We do a lot of cutting also but it usually still involves going up the tree to piece it out limb by limb just because if the power lines. My average tree is probably around 55 feet tall, and the tallest I can remember doing was around 120. So needless to say can just donthosenfrom the ground lol. We get called out for storms whenever they come through to clear trees off the right a ways so I know why you'd be iffy about applying for a linemans position for that reason. It makes for some long days and nights when you working on storms but it is a job that needs done.

Off topic but I would love to visit Alaska sometime. It is one of my must see places before I die.
