I'm not introducing myself so much as my wife's and my new friend. His name is Kilo. We got him Friday from a rescue here in town that specializes in German Shepherds. He's pretty well-trained, I think we just need to continue working on assimilating him into the family unit and asserting who's boss. We weren't really expecting to take him home Friday, we expected to just meet him and fill out the application and then come back later after they reviewed everything. On their website they say they reserve the right to a home visit before adopting out a dog. It makes sense, they're a rescue that runs on donations and they deal with dogs that are fairly high-maintenance, they don't want to risk getting them right back. Well we got out there and met him, filled out the application. The woman we were talking to told us that he really seemed to like us, and she was going to trust the dog and asked if we wanted to take him home. We left to get a checkbook and pick up a couple things, then came back for him. Today is the first day we've left him alone for more than a couple hours. My wife had to work this weekend, but I was home, and we were both home Friday. Back to work for both of us today though. Like I said, he's pretty well-trained. He knows to go to the back door when he needs to do his business and he knew basic commands. We are, however, re-training him in German for various reasons. We're also looking into getting him a backpack to carry a few things and integrate him into the emergency plan, as well as a set of doggie boots. We are prone to tornadoes here, and we'd want him to have protection on his feet if we ever had to hoof it around after one.
