i like to see a bag with organized pockets that is a compartment you can unzip from the bag separately . Also allowing different compartments that zip to the bag with organized pockets allowing the user to start with a basic bag ,and build their bag by adding the compartments to customize to their needs . That way they can unzip certain compartments take it with them when they don't need to take the whole bag with them . Also a versatile straps options , something like a two strap , a single sling strap , and a messenger style carry strap . Maybe using a two fixed locations with 360 degree pivots that can lock in fixed positions . By allowing the standard two straps to convert into different carry options . With the MOLLE being an option on the outside of the individual compartments , and others without this will allow a one bag setup . Than you can just add the things you want , and eliminate the things you don't need . Those who want MOLLE can have it where they want it , and non MOLLE for those that don't want it . My dream option would be having a fold out , or pull out tripod legs to allow me to hold my bag up off the ground so i can have easy access to my bag without having to hang it from a tree limb and other things . OK i got this weird idea lets go big with this , how about a backpack that fold out into a chair . Tripod legs are the frame you fold them out put bag on ground unlock the bag compartments in the middle and it slides to the left and right making a seat in the middle . I think i have said enough If you build it they will come
Holy cow! I stepped away from the forum for less than 24 hours and now I'm behind on my reading! Sorry guys, let me catch up on this 'cos I see a number of posts that I have questions on. Thanks!
I think a full circumference zipper on the main compartment is important to properly pack a pack. Also, self adjusting shoulder straps with extra adjustment length for broad shoulders and winter time when you've got layered heavy clothing on.
The hip pack/fanny pack/lumbar pack all fit certain functional niches. These functions don't suddenly evaporate because some fashion maven in fuschia summer attire yells "Everyone out of the pool." They didn't go away.... honest. ATB, Sam
Oh, I know it. They were just trying to sell something. Along with the rest of TV land. J-Lo made the rounds with seemingly every show when her album was being released. Its the same pattern they all use. They aren't news. They are marketing disguised as entertainment. I still want a hip pack, but not because of them Oh, yeah. They didn't say it was going away. They said its back. I didn't think it had gone anywhere.
I have collected many bags over the years. Makers like 5.11 and Maxpidition have done a great job at producing bags that work well for sporting, survival, tactical and outdoor applications . However, I have yet to find one that makes a good EDC bag (for me). I believe a bag can be made that would not only fill my EDC needs, but all the other categories a well. Compartment closest to back - A top-loading padded compartment large enough to fit at least a 15" Macbook. Include a divider for paperwork\folders. Make it so it can be also used for water bladder or plates for people who do not carry laptops. Main mid-compartment - Should be lined in a high-viz color. One side lined with Molle compatible (velcro-type) loop giving people the option to use molle or hook and loop organization. The other side can have the same or mesh zipper pockets. Outside Compartment - A basic EDC pouch with elastic loops and pockets for organization. Hidden pocket between main and outside pocket - For CCW. It can be held closed with hook\loop or zipper. Interior of pocket should be lined with MOLLE compatible loop (velcro). Back-Exteriour - At least a 6x6 section of MOLLE compatible loop (velcro). This will allow people to use MOLLE pouches, Hook\Loop Pouches or patches. Include a hook-sided panel that could cover the whole section for people who want to run the bag "Non-Tactical". Sides - MOLLE compatible loop section which would allow MOLLE attachments such as bottle holders. Straps - Removable or tuckable straps that let you run backpack or sling-pak style.
I have been looking for a bag that could switch from a dual strap to a sling based on what i am carrying that day. I havent found one. But I've been waiting. I like the quick access of a sling for basic edc. But when i pack for a trip or heavy load the comfort of a dual strap cant be beat. That and pals webbing and ill take two. Sent from the bathroom most likely
Yup. I guess i was thinking more conventiomal like a rush 24 with that feature Sent from the bathroom most likely
Can we have a link to your company and this pack you mention that people wanted to be smaller? Might help me start.
Most of his companies products are made on contract including various governments. The pack people are saying a smaller version is not on his site. It is on the forum however. http://www.edcforums.com/threads/sert-bag-made-for-the-forum.121597/ I think there are links to his pages in the manufacturers section of the forum.
Thank you Jon! I like the pack in the link! Just quickly, the one thing I would change is to have the side pockets fully fit a 32oz Nalgene that cinches at the top on both sides.
If you could design one that was a cross between the Rush 12 size with the Maxped Malaga style (strap, CCW compartment, molle), it would be pretty awesome in my own opinion. I currently EDC a Rush 24, but I miss the way my Malaga carried... it was just too small for my needs.
a cross between a GR Echo and a Kifaru E&E would be nice. Maybe the interior of the Echo and the Exterior of the Kifaru but with half as much molle straps on the outside. Also, would at least fit a 15" laptop.
[Facepalm] ... The only thing worse than making dogs wear clothes is carrying them in a sling. Thread derailment over.
