Oh. I thought it was a clamshell opening. I think it was 'almost' a clamshell opening. Would have also preferred it to be a clamshell though.

From the pic it does not seem the bottle can be cinched in there along the neck. I assume that is a litre bottle.

Just run the compression strap through the Nalgene's loop.

Helm, Dan, and crew, We probably don't say thank you enough, but I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we appreciate all the time and effort y'all spend dealing with the forum. I get that it is, ideally, a symbiotic relationship, but we probably don't give as much as we get.

In any event, here's to a new year filled with lots of nylon for all of us... and Merry CHRISTmas.

I hope we all benefit from the relationship indeed.

Here was the result of the last little poll regarding the clamshell and the water bottle pockets.
Oh Dan A.!? You haven't been online since December 8th. You must be working on this pack pretty hard ;) :bounce:

I kinda get the impression that there is elastic at the top of the water bottle pouch so that it collapses well when empty. Maybe, if there is, it will snug around a standard plactic recycleable water bottle. In any case, I thing THeCone has the right idea...I'll just slip the compression strap though my bottle's cap strap ;)

But, Dan A., is there any release date info? Oh and thanks for not making it before CHRISTmas. :)

Cool! Then maybe we have a clamshell on the way since the full Nalgene might not make it?

Oh I think the full nalgen will fit. Isn't that a narrow mouth nalgene in the pic? IDK, cause mine are regular ones with a CapCap.
But I am interested in Dan A. getting back to us, as HELMIE says he will :D

The poll findings said that they(we) wanted a full clamshell but not at the expense of the full bottle pocket. Dan A said he was gonna work on both.

I like the fact that the pockets are not mesh. HELM, is it possible to get other viewpoints of the bag, or did I just not read far enough back in the thread? :)

Edit: please disregard as I found the video a few pages back.

What does the bottle pocket look like without the bottle in it?

    That's funny.

Does it lay flat against the pack?

Happy holidays guys! We're all taking a break from the non-stop development and production we've been involved in for the last few months. Dan and I just got back home before Xmas and once he's settled, he'll join in again.

In the meantime it appears that some of the Qs have been answered by others (thanks!). Dan did make another prototype that incorporated both a clamshell and the side water bottle pouch but it completely threw off the dimensions and the look of the pack; it was too deep when one of our goals was to keep it slim. This is supposed to be more of a day pack versus a 3-day type.

What Dan has essentially done is keep as close as possible to the outcome of the poll where more were keen on side pouches to hold 32oz Nalgene bottles versus a clamshell. And yes the top of the side pouches do have an elastic band that reduces the opening when there are no bottles. I used one side to hold my belt, watch, wallet, etc thro security at a couple of airports on my way back here and in the other I had a bottle of water I picked up along the way.

Guys we have mentioned this on a number of occasions that it would be almost impossible to incorporate everything that everyone wants to see in this pack. Thus the poll and we have to keep it as close as possible to the majority outcome of the poll. Personally I don't carry any Nalgene bottles and have very little need for larger side bottle pouches but the final design of this pack is not about what I nor Dan wants. It's what the majority of you want to see included in this pack.

Helm, thanks very much for the update. Sounds like things are moving along well. I understand -- and I'm pretty sure most everyone else on here does -- that you can't custom-build a pack for each of us. But, adding input from the group has already improved the design (man, we've got some sharp folks on here!). Thank you again!
