I'm looking for a tough, stout knife for work. I'm sick of beating the crap out of folders and then they have a mechanism fail. I need something that can get dragged around for days, hack into anything, and get the hell beaten out of it. I was thinking maybe something tanto like, (which is a rarity for me.) Chopping/Hacking abilities would be most useful. 4 inches of blade MAXIMUM the smaller the better. Preferably with an easy remove handle system (in case the handles break on it or something) So yeah small, sturdy, stupid, fast and ugly. Like a tanto cleaver or something. Money is not an issue, the mission is. Any help?
IZULA Should do just about everything you need it to. It is not a chopper but you can baton the heck out of it and not worry.
If you're looking for a tanto, daniel fairly has a titanium tanto for sale. Bit pricy, but I bet you could beat the crap out of it. 4 inch blade, so it is at your upper limit. I've gotten a couple of blades from him, all users, not had a failure yet.
Esee 4, esee 3, or esee izula or izula 2....never buy another knife! It breaks they replace it!!!!no questions asked!
I was looking at TOPS knives the other day, they have some interesting designs. Maybe one of these will fit your needs. TOPS Crow Hawke TOPS Lil Roughneck(don't know this maybe a bit overboard, almost 10mm think)I wouldn't mind having it though TOPS Wolfhawk Tanto something other then TOPS Chris Reeve Professional Soldier Tanto OKC 8632 RAT 3 DPX HEST II Milspec ESEE 3
Any ESEE would work, something like the Izula. I also like the BK2 from Ethan Becker, made by KaBar. A Fallkniven F1 is a step up in terms of steel and finish, but lacks the removable handle scales.
You could mess with making one exactly how you want it yourself, lots of you tube videos to learn from
If I were getting a knife to fit that, it would probably be an ESEE due to their reasonable cost and outstanding warranty. However, if price were no issue, I would also look at the Bradford Guardian (3 or 4) or something from Survive! knives. I have a couple of ESEE knives (although not in that size range) and a Survive! GSO 4.1. The GSO is a beast, and in CPM 3V I'm sure it would handle anything you could throw at it. The Bradford knives were designed specifically to replace hard use folders.
