    Hi Guys,

    I have decided to look at getting two types of knives a small key/pocket size and a bigger EDC type knives, I currently have the BG Gerber Folder and liked the shape of the knife and for this knife having both Plain and Serrated. I am looking at a plain edge, Spear or clip style, all of the priced knives are from - www. cuttingedgeknives. com. au.

    Key Chain/Small Pocket

    * Cold Steel Mini Recon 1
    - Price : $39.05 AUD
    I like the look of this knife, and going from the reviews it is a nice light weight knife that can complete different tasks. May even get a pink one for my Wife.

    [IMG]

    * Byrd Robin 2 (G-10)
    - Price : $40.70 AUD
    I gave one of these to my mate Xiii, but in the FRN handles, he loves the knife and again looks like it would be a nice knife and would be that smaller type knife.

    [IMG]

    Mid-Larger EDC Knife

    * Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 (Spear point)
    - Unknown
    I wanted to get this knife however just been informed that it is on the banned illegal list, so want to look at something very similar and need some ideas.

    [IMG]

    So I have seen these knifes and sort of like the look of them

    * Ontario RAT M2 Folder 8861BP
    - Price : $60.00 AUD
    I have seen a few people here with the Rat 2 and liked the look of the knife and not to worried about the AUS-8 stainless black blade.
    [IMG]

    * Boker Plus Optima Lockback BOP02603
    - Price : $70.00
    No thumb slot or stud, only a nail slot, so puts me off a bit and the price is a bit on the high side for me, yes more than $10 than the Rat M2, but I could put that towards the postage.

    [IMG]

    So my EDCF family what other knifes would you recommend and why? Please reference back to the website I posted above or another Ozy site.

    I think Xiii will mostly likely chip in with his favourite knives and I wouldn't expect anything less :p

    For that price range/size, my choice would be a spyderco ambitious/persistence. Might be a couple (negligible) dollars more, but you won't regret it.

    Thanks Mate, I did see the Ambitious in the EDCF store around the $34 USD ($38.61AUD) so a bit cheaper than than the CS Micro Recon 1, but just don't know about getting it over to Perth. $24 bucks US isn't to bad a cost ($28 AUD).

    The Manix 2 light weight is right there in the same price range at $75. I would personally suggest waiting however and go for something in the $125-$150 range or buy used. I always regret buying cheaper knives when there's so many fantastic knives below $150.

    Just had a look at the Manix 2, looks nice can't see it on any of the Ozy sites. I currently can't justify a Knife over the $100 mark to my wife or even to myself, hence the mid range knives listed, don't get me wrong I've seen some knives that I would love to have in the $200 range. But with 3 kids, back to renting a our old house (just sold it to an investor) as we are building our second house it's just not viable also Australian knife laws suck here in WA and even in New Zealand where I'm from. That's why I wanted a knife around the 2" blade and one around the 3.75-4" range.

    I hate to add more options to an already difficult decision, but I'll go ahead and recommend the Kershaw OD-1 as a mid-range EDC knife. It's the top knife below.

    I've carried this knife for a long time at it always impresses me. I love the opening action, the edge retention, and its light weight. You get a heck of a lot for around $35-40. Instead of going on and on about it, I'll let Nutnfancy do it for me.

    Hey Cody the Kershaw OD-1 would be on the banned list here in Australia as it is OH deploring and could even be considered as a flip knife. Looks like a nice blade though.

    Are flippers and/or assisted opening legal down there?

    If so, I would recamend the best EDC blade Ever( or in the top three Ever at any rate), the Kershaw Cryo :cool:

    Other than that, I gotta say the Rat 2 is a great knife, mine gets a LOT of carry time!

    Hey AK,

    We can't carry assisted, gravity, spring or flippers are all banned, even the Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 is on the banned list as it is OH opener. So far I am really leaning towards the Rat M2 and the CS Mini Recon 1. I might get a Spyderco or Byrd later but I think those to knives will work well with my intended EDC vision.

    Still keep the ideas coming there could still be a knife that I am not aware of..
