Hey everyone, I've been away from edcf for a while and am looking to change out my knives that have been in rotation for the past three years.

I think I've settled on the Pioneer X. But the problem is, I want to get one that isn't silver. I've seen some for $75-$100 in green, red, black. But can anyone help me out with one for cheaper? Or possibly in a different color?

I want to get a few mods done eventually, but don't want to break the bank beforehand.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Awesome to be back on edcf!!!

eBay is where you could check out. If fact I just bought a Pioneer X the other day - silver alox. I've seen colored ones on eBay but pricey. Good luck.

I don't think that you will find a colored Pioneer X for less than what you've seen. My understanding, and I may be wrong (often am) is that colored aloxs are generally limited and often snapped up by collectors

Silver is going to be easiest to find. There's some rumbling going on in the SAKaholic world that Vic is cutting back on their Alox- apparently the only alox knives in the 2016 catalog are (most of) the 93mm Pioneer line and the 84mm Cadet. If it is true- and it may not be, I'm no expert and don't wish to cause pandemonium- that Vic is paring down their Alox offerings, it's likely that they're paring down the color options on the available Alox as well.

I was looking for a new red Pioneer to augment my silver one and couldn't find one. Victorinox only had the silver ones on their site. The same situation may be happening with the X. Short of paying out the wazoo for one on the Bay, you might be out of luck... for a factory option. If you're willing to pay for modifications, there are folks out there who would do very good work turning your Alox knives into the stuff of dreams.

Has anyone anodized a silver one? Would be interesting to see.

I believe that there has been anodizing done, but IMHO the best looking aftermarket finish is Cerakote because of all the funky colors you can get.

Check out the Swiss Army subforum at Multitool.org for some pics of some pretty gorgeous modified SAKs. Some of the guys over there are true artists.

I got curious and took a fast look at Amazon. I see Pioneer in black; and also Cadet in Orchid. Both in addition to silver of course.

I also sometimes buy from 'Cutlery Shoppe'. They're showing Cadet in orange; Pioneer in black, blue and green; Farmer in orange; Classic in Steel Blue and Orchid.

Note that none of these Pioneers are the Pioneer-X that OP asked about!
