I'd buy a belt according to my pants belt loop size.
I'd buy a holster to fit that specific size of belt.
If the holster will fit a belt larger (wider) than the belt size, I'd expect that the stability of the holster would be compromised.
Most people that recommend anything but a "top shelf" belt have probably never owned one.
Such a belt should set you back about a hundred bucks.
    Well worth it.

I have a couple Daltech leather belts, and the are great. But I just recently bought an Ares Gear Aegis.....this is by far my all time favorite belt!! I wear it daily now, my leather belts have been collecting dust. The infinite adjustability of the aegis is awesome, I can get a perfect fit with any gun in any position.

I wear a Bull Hide gun belt with double prong. I'm a fan of double prong gun belts. Mine was $60 on clearance (reg $80 iirc).

I'm wearing a Hank's right now, although I'm not carrying because I'm at work. It's rock solid and looks just fine with khakis/dress pants which are dress code here.

Another vote for the Ares Aegis. Best belt I've ever owned.

I found myself needing a new leather carry belt and came across Hank's and was not only surprised by their reasonable prices but they shipped fast and the belt is of great quality for $40 especially in extended "tactical tubby" sizes. :) I plan to get one of their nicer belts too.

Same here. Great belt for the money. I used to go with the Tuff Products EZ glide and the SOE EDC but once I got back in an office setting a leather belt made much more sense. I also use a KORE Essentials belt from time to time, I got one free for doing a review.

This. I have an SOE belt, Wilderness belt and a Saddleback Leather. There's no comparison - my Saddleback is the most comfortable by far. I don't even wear the others anymore.

Nylon belts with Velcro are nice because you get the exact adjustment you want, but I still prefer leather. It's classic, patinas nicely and is much more comfortable.

Getting the exact fitment to me means great comfort, I can wear it all day and forget it is on. In regards to looks I get that but you never see mine anyway (shirt covers it up) so I don't care, in reality I rather like the look of the Cobra buckle over standard buckles.

I don't want to derail this thread entirely, but I too am looking into a belt for my pistol (ruger P95..so heavy) and came to this thread for suggestions. This is probably a really rookie question, but with a leather holster that doesn't have a clip, if you conceal IWB, do you wear a belt under your pants, and another in the loops?

Just one belt in the loops. What kind of holster are you using?

Well I'm thinking of a holster a buddy has. After I posted this I figured out how it worked. Sorry that was kind of a really dumb moment

Some great suggestions here. The SOE cobra belts are great! Wear one everyday to work. I have tried the ares belts a couple of times and prefer the SOE. Look up Rick Garcia at rgleather.net. Great belts. I have had mine for five years or so and it is still my go to when I am not working.

I don't think "sturdy" is all that critical with an inside the waistband holster. The belt is not actually supporting the full weight of the weapon like an outside the waistband holster.

Accurate statement. It surely helps but is not nearly as necessary as for owb. Iwb the clip almost matters more than the belt imo.

With that said, my belt is extremely sturdy. So is the clip for my holster.
