Can I please have my name changed to my IG and tumbler name : gear_queer
There probably haven't been any Admins around to respond. I don't think a Mod has the power. Patience is a virtue.
Or, they may be discussing my plan. Oh, how I hope they say, "Yes".
I will say, I wouldn't get my hopes up with your first choice. Just saying.
with all due respect, i dont see the issue referring to myself as queer. not trying to be a jerk.
It's not up to me and I'm not offended. I'm just a regular member like you. I'm merely saying, given what I know about the staff's judgement about such things, I'd have a backup plan.
I'm really here only to provide entertainment till help arrives. You seemed a little bored and frustrated in post two, so I figured watching me clown around would help pass the time.
ok i gotcha. i know its kinda risky.
You are, of course, free to refer to yourself how you like. But "queer" is commonly accepted as derogatory slang in the US - granted, it has other meanings elsewhere. But in accordance with the mainstream definition, I think the forum would just as soon avoid the use of even potentially offensive words and slang.
I suspect T.H. is right on this point as well.
^^^ what he said. You may not be offended but someone else might be.
its pretty common for gay males to refer to themselves as queer
Well then I'm all for it! gear_queer it is!
THe Cone is right...Modz has little powers. But I will quote your post in the proper place for Admins to see your request.
thank you, much appreciated.
Should we bookmark this thread? I mean Cone being right and all...
haha please dont
I suggest Fluffy.
i feel like thats a little more offensive
And, besides, I have dibs on it as my backup name.
Sure - and I've watched a couple of African Americans cheerfully refer to each other all afternoon as "N-this" and "N-that" and "my N-so-and-so."
Now, if I as a non-African American had strolled up and said, "hey, my N-folk" there would have been blood in the street. Much the same with homosexuals who call themselves queer. They tend to be less sanguine about the word being casually tossed about by other folks not known to be homosexual.
I'm not an admin, so I don't have any input on whether or not they approve your name request, but this is probably a good general rationale why it might not be.
Let me get this straight. You are comparing the word "queer" to a word that is so bad you can only refer to it as the "n" word? Let me ask you another question. Are you assuming I am a white straight male?
