That's what I'm using too! Some people say the biners will open but fortunately that hasn't happened to me.

I'm carrying this as well, though a few less keys. I've used the smaller s-biners for a few other things and they've held up wonderfully.

The NI s-biners are notorious for opening, as are some McGizmo clips with similar spring wire gates. It has to do with the thickness of the ring it's attached to. Smaller guage wire rings can get under the edge if the gate enough to cam against it, and it will absolutely drop your stuff. Just so's ya know!

I carried a Nite-Ize rack a long time ago. I did have a gate open up on me, but my real problem was the wire gate popped out, so it wasn't really secure. If I could recommend, if I do use the S-biners, specifically the non-locking ones, I double up on them. If one should fail, hopefully the other one will still be attached to the keyring before I lose anything.

I've had problems with the plastic s-biners, but not the steel ones. If you look around you should be able to find the steel #0s if that becomes an issue.

Both my son and I have had the s biners open on us, but it was always while in pocket , so not a huge problem just annoying.

S-biners work well as long as the proper sized rings are used to prevent them from "camming" open. Also small fishing swivels work well in this application.

My experience is that both the plastic and metal s biners will open randomly, so I have switched to the locking s biners, particularly for important keys so they don't fall off. Nite Ize makes the Keyrack with these s biners.

From now on I will only buy locking s biners, a bit more money, but worth it to me.

I bought the steel version, and then a Victorinox belt clip keyring. I hung the s-biners on the Vic keyring and clipped it to my belt. Now all my keyring tools hang in my pocket and I detach my keys when I want to use them.

I got the steel version too. I really just wanted several small S-Biners for my keychain but it was cheaper to get the key rack than buy them individually.

I just *knew* there would already be a thread for this thing. I got mine (SS) from REI yesterday. Because of the S-biner history of opening, I won't carry it in my pocket, but it will make a nifty storage mechanism for keys and pocket toys (lights, keys, etc.).

@Pathwinder14 - REI has both the "Big Ring" organizer and the steel key rack on sale, if you're looking for more of the small S-Biners.

The plastic ones will break, on occasion and the metal will open, someone posted a cheap trick about using a small piece of shrink tube or heat shrink to keep the clips from opening and it work quite well. I have had 3 of these and they have all held up well, the newest one is a large steel ring with metal clips and it works better than all I them I've had it for around a month and a half[IMG]
