I was just eying that Exotac. Is it long enough to hold REI matches?

(The Exotac page says it take up to 72mm. Sadly I'm not home, so I can't measure my matches.)

I know they take the County Comm storm matches and I like the fact the strikers are on the case.

The Exotac stuff is AWESOME. I love the designs and they are very reasonably priced. My only issue with one I had was the striker material came off too easily.. But since they give you extra, that wasn't a big deal at all...

    REI matches = 2.75" = 69.85mm

UCO matches = same as REI

Speaking of Exotac/forum store, just spotted the Exotac candleTINs. Onto the wish-list for the home and Jeep emergency kits.

They do make good products. Obvious some thought went into the designs, and the manufacturing quality is top-notch.

[IMG]Before I ordered the K&M, I had ordered this from DealExtreme. So, today,a month and a half later, it arrived and looks like pretty much what I need. Large enough for some matches - need to trim about 1/4" off the CountyComm ones I have), striker, tinder and a ferro rod. British 2 Penny coin for scale. OK, the grid is 1", so it measures about 1" in diameter by 3 3/8" (counting the little ring holder}. And it cost a couple of bucks. Light weight (almunium) and pretty nice finish. Will miss the brass though.........

I have a similar one to DX model. It does the trick ok but seems to wiggle itself open ever so slightly in my bag. Of course, YMMV, but wanted to give you a heads up in case you planned on relying on it during inclement weather.

No, DX=DealExtreme. The K&M is WAY better quality, fit and finish. A friend has one, and I covet it really appreciate the quality. ;)

Figured it might do that, so will wrap a bit of duct tape around it and it should be good to go.

Ps: Sold the K&M on eBay.............:bye:

Could there be any negative health consequences from the time I accidentally inhaled smoke that was released from a burning REI chemical match while lighting-up (my campfire)? Does breathing it (albeit in moderation) cause sterility? a little bit of cancer? remove unwanted hair? or bring on the dreaded blue screen of death?

No, but it does cause halitosis. So, use Listerine but since Listerine has alcohol in it, you must be careful or you could set yourself on fire, if you are gargling Listerine and happen to be doing so by the campfire and then spit the Listerine out on the fire...you could become a Frank Zappa song. :)

    It's bromhidrosis . . .

Always thought it was the xylaphone player (who had studied under Saul Goodman at Juilliard) who had the greastest impact on Zappa during this, his most creative period. Worth noting her contribution in this clip.

No, there is a line in "Yo Mama" from The Sheik Yerbouti Tango from 1979... "You could start a fire and burn your face."

Pretty good for a diehard Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Godsmack, Metallica, Alice In Chains and just about everything else fan. I really like Zappa, too.
