My Vanquest Katara 16 arrived last Thurs and I have been taken it out for a few days. It is as nice a pack as I have imagined. Comfortable to use. Small (by design). The convertible strap system is really well done. My main take away is that it has "too many organization feature" -- in that you can setup the pack however you want. For me this mean a day out with the kids or run to a meeting with my laptop.

Hey that looks like a nice bag! Too bad I can't get one here, and shipping & taxes would be outrageous...

Thanks for posting the link to your review, it was very detailed. I like the idea of the pack, but it is a bit on the small side for me I think. I'm currently using a javelin, which is just barely big enough for my needs, but I do wish it had ambidextrous straps.

I hear ya. I still have my Javalin 3.0 and it is a great sling bag. It is funny that on paper the Javalin is only half a litre larger. I do wonder because the Katara has softer materials and shape, if I really stuff it, maybe I can get a lot more stuff inside. It is just that the content will be less accessible without opening the clamshell completely.

I've been itching for a new smaller EDC backpack and after reading this, I ordered one! Right now I'm using a MOAB 6 converted to a shoulder bag and it's great but I wanted to go back to a backpack. I use to EDC a RUSH 12 but it was a little too big for my EDC needs and my daughter ended up stealing it.

Congrats! So what are the chances that your daughter is going to borrow your new Katara 16 instead?

I have been using the Katara as a sling so far but actually am thinking about changing it back to a backpack just to try it out that way.

My daughter has the R12 overflowing with stuff. It would never fit in the Vanquest. I wouldn’t be surprised if she stole my RUSH 24 next!

Is it possible to attach a Maxpedition waterbottle pouch on the molle?

You should be able to. The side cuts work for my molle attachments.
