I've been wanting to do this for a long time...

With all the talented folks here who sew different articles I finally broke down and got a sewing machine. For the longest time I've had so many different projects I wanted to put together which you just can't buy in stores. But then there was the whole stigma of the "man sewing" thing which probably played a part in my 54 year delay. In any case, I'm now in business.

After learning how to use the sewing machine (self taught) and practicing some stitches on some scrap cloth I decided to sit down and make a fairly simple project, a handkerchief. Here are the results of my first attempt.

Let me know what you think. I've been sewing now for just about one half of one day.

If you have fun and like the finished results don't let anybody stop you!

    Looks good

It's not failure if you learn something from it

I probably should have ironed it before taking the picture. It's all crinkled from being turned rightside-out.

This was really just a learning experiment. I hope to move on/up to more complicated outdoor gear as I learn more.

I would really like to learn how to work with blanket weight wool and/or waxed heavy cotton/canvas (even if I have to wax it myself).

Every man should know how to sew. I do. Nothing fancy, but i can fix a tear, sew a patch and replace a button.

Seeing all these cool "tactical" hanks inspired my interest in learning to sew, also.

My wife has an entire sewing room that's never produced a single stitch. All kinds of machines and menagerie. Cricut printers. Photog gear. Ah.

Man, I wish I'd have had that as an excuse to start sewing. I had to start from ground zero. It's actually a lot of fun, and challenging too. Back when I first got out of college I was a layout engineer, and I really enjoyed that. Sewing involves serious layout and forward thinking (which I also like).

You should turn your wife's sewing room into your sewing room...and start sewing. I had to set mine up in the basement man-cave, situated between my table saw and reloading bench (but hey, it works!).

I already have a "study" I can't be seen in for too long. I have to sneak my hobbies lol. Long, unamusing story.

My sewing knowledge is limited to the theory of it but the stitches look really clean and I love the fabric you used.

Nice job. You think you're a sissy, I had my mom help me sew a few. Lol She's been sewing for a long time. They turned out okay. I want to try some more but I'm in no hurry. I have a few from Cranky and HBH that are really nice but I don't use them as much as I'd like.

    Great job.

Never referred to any of that stuff as 'tactical' though
This joker just called a handkerchief as that

Not this jokers fault, blame the companies that put them out, Lots of companies. I hear ya, way too much "tactical" going around these days, never seen a rifle assault anything either but it is what it be. Apparently he knows more what he's talking about than you do. Lol I prefer EDC Hank but even that is a little over the top, it's just a hanky, but a cool one.

Eh, it is the companies' fault for pushing it, but we dont have to continue it

But youre right, he knows so much about tactical hanks, far more for me, none of mine are tactical...
