I have a Vanquest Trident 20. I originally bought it to be a daddy diaper bag. Diapers never made their way to it. In time, it turned into what I've listed below. It's getting heavy, but the weight comes from the tablet/keyboard - the item I most want in there. I used to keep a bottle of water but ditched that weight. I almost never use the stuff most of which would be for fantasy scenarios.

Samsung tablet/Logitech keyboard case (& charger)
    Moleskin notebook
    Checkbook
    Mechanix gloves
    Altoids tin (booboo kit/meds)
    ITS survival tin
    ITS EDC trauma pack
    Monocular
    Trauma shears
    Leatherman Wave
Wiley X sunglasses in hard case
Prescription glasses in small, hard case
    Streamlight ProTac 2L
    Alcohol swabs (for cleaning phone)
Nitrile gloves (to keep hands clean)
    Ruger LCP magazine (loaded)
    Maxpedition Micro Organizer (electronics kit)
    Streamlight Stylus Pro
    Sharpie
    Pilot G2 pens (3)
    Post It Notes
    N95 mask
    Ear plugs
    Hot Hands (4)
    Quarters (12-16)
    Bogota lock pick set
    Vanquest Maximizer Organizer
    -Anker Astro 3e battery
    -USB cable
    -Leatherman bit kit
    -Leatherman bit extender
    -Bic mini
    -10 feet, approx, coiled Paracord
    -Gorilla tape on a card
    -Cable ties (6)
    -Paper clips
    -Envelopes (2)
    -$20 bills (4)
    -Forever stamps (2)
    -BandAids (3-4)
    -Fresnel lens
    Wisps
    Hand sanitizer
    Nail clippers
    Kleenex

Do you have to carry this bag around with you a lot? If so then you might need to trim the weight starting with the items that you have never used at any point in time. My gear bag weighs at least 25lbs which would be a real drag to constantly lug around but mine sits in my truck all week so weight is not an issue.

Reorganize the items into 2 bags. One bag for items you need to carry. The other bag stays in the ride.

That's a lot to carry around on a daily basis, but if you NEED it then man-up and carry a larger bag....we all choose our load, I'd dump at least half of that clutter myself :)

Most of us have been here.

I'd rather just get a bigger pack. I find when I try to downsize, a week or two after I take something out, I need it. Murphys law and Murphy doesn't like me. I'd rather carry a little too much then too little.

Or go the garza route, split it into two bags and keep one in the vehicle.

PS Vanquest has the IBEX 30 in their Fire Sale section. 30L bag....(non refundable thou)

PSS Send me the 4 $20 bills. That will save you some weight. :p

I used to keep a GHB (Maxped Falcon II) in my vehicle with similar items. That bag was done away with (it's presently on eBay for sale with accessories), and I had no true EDC bag. Once the tablet came along, I used a shoulder bag which evolved into the Trident 20 and the hodge podge fantasy tools. I carry it up to my office and inside my home. No, I don't carry it around like a purse.

I bought a bag on Amazon recently and made a post about it for this exact purpose. The vintage-esque messenger bag is for my tablet and crap you'd need with a tablet. Somehow, I've not yet evolved into using it despite my initial zeal in purchasing it. I feel like I need to be wearing a leather jacket or Fedora to use it, lol.

I know! And a liter of water is 2.2 pounds approximately.

Yeah, it's nice stuff but totally useless really. I don't even use the Leatherman. Peculiarly, those items don't take up a lot of space. The awkwardness to the Trident 20 is that it's not a great backpack in the traditional sense, but it handles lots of small items really well and rather discreetly. Sadly, it's not gravity defying.

I'll send you four if you send me five.

I try to keep some urban preparedness tools in it, and in reality the only thing you "need" in an urban environment is money and a way to charge your smartphone.

Maybe go with what you feel are the necessities, and place the rest in a bag that is in your vehicle.
If you need something from the vehicle bag then add it.
After thirty days, re-evaluate things and pare it down some more.
Personally there are some things that I don't use daily, but their consistent use rates it as something that stays in the pack.
There are also those items that I like to keep and hope not to use very frequently --- like first aid items.

Lol. You know in 4-5 years of keeping Paracord around I've never used it. I have a story about duct tape. ;)

Monocular and lock pick set? Ditch it all.

    Flushable wipes
    Gaffer tape
    First aid kit
Gold fish..the snack not the fish.
    Water

    I have triplet sons.
