I've been eyeballing shackle keys for quite some time but haven't pulled the trigger as I have a VOX access tool... Seeing your mod has probably sealed my next EDC purchase.
    Thanks for the thread :)

I think he flattened the end to make the screwdriver tip/box opener.

    Gotcha, thanks ac7ss !

Okay, dumb question (my best kind!)... I assumed shackle key meant handcuff key; am I way off base here ?

Yeah, I did. But slightly. It was already fairly flat. But not box-opening flat. If that makes sense ;)

    @ Nightowl,
Yes, you're way off :p Shackles are used on (sailing)boats and ships. You can see one in the first pic.

By the way, I'm checking out if I can get a discount on a 'large' number of these keys.

I can tell you, but then I'd have to kill you ;)

I bought it at https://www.karwei.nl/. But that won't be of much use to you. But like I said before, I'm trying to get a discount on these so I can pass them along to my EDCF friends. I'll keep you posted.

    Short update.

Contacted three stores/companies which sell these keys. I have yet to receive a reply from any of them :/
You'd almost think they don't want to sell their products. Ugh.

By the way, the titanium one looks awesome! I've been using mine extensively the last couple of days, and it's holding up very well. The only drawback so far is that these are stainless steel, and when I applied too much force (when prying something heavy, like a door) the steel dis-forms somewhat. But I guess that's normal. You shouldn't be able to pry a solid door open with these small tools anyway.

How long did it take to modify? That's not a bad looking tool.

About 20-30 minutes. The most difficult part was to find the right size o-rings. And not all bits fit either, since the shackle key is tapered.
