While the SOG Bowie was still on the table, I used it to peel an slice up a pear. Nom nom.
I've never seen that Vic-nox before, or does it come with the Swisscard perhaps..?
Hello back BOOM! Indeed it's the little knife of a black Swisscard Lite.
Ah, I guess I have seen it before then
I sharpened my Manix 2 XL for the first time. The factory edge was pretty outstanding, and the S30V steel kept sharp very well. But after 2 months of various uses on light EDC tasks it started to loose the edge it came with. Paper slicing no more . Time to pull out my Lansky and go sit in the sun.
The steel sharpened very well, I took about 20 minutes to go trough 3 stones, a strop, and be done with it.
Here's the result of the first sharpening session on it:
Close up of the edge, I got the angle pretty much head on.
Close up of the tip. Note to self: I have to clamp it a bit closer to the tip next time, as the angle was not correct to reach the edge on the tip. I could have re-clamped it today, I spotted it while sharpening, but as I use the belly more then the tip of the blade, I will leave it for the next session. The tip was stropped, and is as sharp as it came from the factory, but the mirror edge did not make it there. Patience is a virtue
The Manix next to a Pioneer blade for size comparison:
3 new LED wall mounted lights for the study: 3 x 56€
Gas tank: 65€
New jeans: 99€
New sweater: 139€ (ok, that was overly expensive, but it was Cashmere - Brace yourself, winter is coming )
Budget for a new knife: zero
Wow, nice job.
Thanks. I like my knives sharp, and sharpening them relaxes me.
Should have taken a close up of the edge before I sharpened it and put the pics side by side.
You could have gone to a thrift shop for a sweater. That would leave you 110.- for a knife.
Great job, what angle do you use, 20 degrees?
Cheers Gwac. Yep, 20 degrees seems to be the same as factory.
That's 20 on each side, total angle is 40 degrees.
microbe it's not your fault, the angle shifted-changed towards the tip that is the usual problem with lansky, che change in the angle is quite noticeable. Edge pro has that problem sorted with support point being farther from the blade so the angle change isn't as noticeable
btw you did a great job

On another note, my Zippo jet insert is starting to fail...
Random question but can you buy Rubi Kanguro products easily over there please?
I'm trying to get a product they don't/won't sell here in the UK
Lovingly transmitted by Nexus 6 droid
I only buy their tiling gear, in fact I didn't even know they did other stuff!!
