Thanks for that, i have been wondering. If i have to return the torch it would make it a none starter as i'm UK based and i'd be heart broken if it went missing en route.
It is amusing how copper has found favor in what my late father's generation once termed "pocket trinkets;" the equivalent of what we on this forum now know as EDC items. He once carried a cigar-length "persuader." Trends really do come "full circle."
Well there are a batch of differences: all 3 have different reflectors. The rev 1s were a little longer. Brightness. And so on. But the easy way to tell us the 1 was 1 mode, the 2 was 2 mode and I'll leave you wondering on the 3 ;-p Clips were factory installed starting with the 2, because people were apparently having trouble getting them on without scratching the body. So the pre insta is a courtesy. By no means are they intended be permanent. (This from my recollection of the rev 2 page) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have the brass one as well and my copper one just shipped today. And yes Mister 0dBm it is interesting how copper has become the new EDC gold for so much of our stuff. Carl
I think the older copper maratac aaa flashlights had a CU on them. My new one doesn't. Can anyone verify with me that the new ones don't say Cu on them? I have a brass one as well - until the copper starts to patina faster - it's a bit confusiong
I believe it was only the R1 (which I don't have to check) Checking what I do have... R2: does not appear to have any markings R3: says "MARATAC / AAA" on the head, just above the joint AA: says "MARATAC / AA" on the head, just above the joint CR123: says "MARATAC" on the end of the battery tube As far as telling them apart goes they shouldn't be anything like the same color. Copper should be pinkish, like rose gold and Brass yellow, like yellow gold. (For the sake of completeness, Bronze has a brownish color.) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Hey, thanks so much. As far as actually being confused which is which, I was kind of joking. I have identified small differences to tell them apart, but I was curious about the "CU" marking. I'm sure that as time goes by they will more and more different. Thanks
I kind of figured, but thought if I was going to answer the post I may as well answer it all. Besides, someday someone will see it and want to know about Bronze.
Thanks for the answer! It must be great to have all three. I wish they would re-issue the AA and CR123. Id love to have those as well. I especially like the look of the CR123.
I got a Rev 3 a couple weeks ago. You could barely see the etching of the Maratac AAA and now that patina is developing, you have to really look for it. The clip was a pain to get off, putting a small scratch on there, and it didn't come exactly with a high polish. There's also a smudge or something that won't come off that was more visible when it had less patina. It's just to the right of the reflection below... Something else I've noticed when shining against the wall is that the beam doesn't seem to be perfectly circular or symmetrical? In other words, when I shine it on the wall and rotate the light, you can see a "wobble" for lack of a better term. Is this normal? Nice light, but mine didn't come "perfect" by any means.
The "wobble" is normal. The led/die is really more square than round, and the beam is forced into a circle by the reflector. If you look at some beam shots of lights with focusing mechanisms you often see this when zoomed all the way in -- a square splotch of light. Or look at my thread on the maratac personal flood. I've got a pic where you can easily see the die shape and orientation and then the beam shot is pretty clearly a square with rounded edges. Once to take that and start to turn the body you'll notice a "wobble". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
