Paracord.......necklaces, bracelets, keychains, lanyards and on and on. It can be addictive so be careful. I can veg in front of the TV and tie for hours when in the mood. Give it a cause and make support bracelets and necklaces to donate to the next benefit you hear about. Have done this twice now for a friend with brain cancer and a relative with breast cancer. Sold 60 necklaces at the friends and a combination of 60 necklaces and bracelets for relative. Was able to hand each $600 at the end of the night and could have sold more if I would have had them. The necklaces go like hot cakes, once one kid gets one it spreads like wildfire. I salted the crowd with my own kids the second go round.

I'll +1 the models. I usually buy a few every winter on sale at hobby lobby to keep me entertained. I'd like to do a big wooden ship model, but I'm not quite there yet.

Start a blog about something. I tend to write more in mine when cabin fever sets in. I don't get a whole lot of traffic to it, but I do it more for myself anyway so I don't much care.

I had a good friend in the Army, tough, hardcore kinda guy, used to crochet. I used to joke with him about it, he would just laff and say it relaxed him. If I didn't have hand pain/arthritis issues would probably give it a try.

How about cooking? Before you laugh, it's all about chemistry, raw meat, fire, and sharp knives. Your wife might even show her appreciation as well. ;)

    Rebuilding classic motorcycle engines?

Reloading? With a Lee hand press, I do quite a lot of reloading sitting on the couch in front of the tube. Except for the final step of powder dispensing / bullet seating, it hardly takes any concentration at all.

so we're looking for a good fidgeting-with-stuff hobby that is save to do with a small child on the loose, and a bit more joint-friendly than belgeri. hmm.. that rules out balisong twirling and playing with those sets of little tiny magnets. here's the fidgety hobbies I know of that might fit.

Baoding Balls. they're large round balls to rotate in your hand without dropping them or clanging them together agressively. baodingballs.com has a wide variety of sizes/materials, and youtube has vids ranging from basic stuff (two smaller balls per hand) to advanced contact-juggling type stuff (3+ ginormous balls per hand).

Yoyos. modern ones have captured bearing systems around the axle for more spin/sleep time, and many tricks are more about hand/arm movements than finger movements. yoyonation.com has a big selection of different makes/models/styles at all price points.

Origami/paper planes/papercraft. materials are readily available and recyclable.

juggling. go with juggling beanbags for indoor use so you don't break anything.

Legos. as the little one gets older, they can join in.

Cooking. fun with knives and appliances, and you can eat the results!

Something manly you can do while sitting in front of the TV? How about developing an appreciation for fine spirits? You can sit and sip whiskey. That's manly.

Have to agree with paracord. Or just pulling out all your gear and obsessively rearranging your carry trying to find the perfect one.
