How long does it take for the lock to loosen up Because I heard that when you get it it is very stiff Also would it be hard to close with gloves. Or should I just get the stretch 2 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Dude, it opens and it closes fine. Mine was never "stiff" in any way and never got "loose".They're good knives and really popular for a reason. Order it and if you don't like it, send it back if you have no other way of handling one.
+1 on all that. If the UK didn't have a crazy law over EDCing a locking blade, this would be my most carried knife,....well after altering the blade length just a tad to fit in with the sub 3" cutting edge but you get my drift, it's a great knife!
I've got two Manix 2's... The lightweight model has a lock that opens and closes like butter. The s110v is ok on opening and VERY difficult to pull back for closing... I've thought about sending it back a time or two, but it's sentimental and I don't want to risk it getting lost in the mail. That one's been opened/closed thousands of times and it's never gotten better.
Don't have a Stretch for direct comparison but just based on my opinion from looking at pictures (probably worthless) I'd say they're equal.
I don't have a Stretch either; but given so many user comments plus the beefiness of my Manix 2 I might give the Manix a slight edge to it. I do mean slight. I don't think Spyderco know how to make a knife that will fail to hold up! L'chaim! Moshe ben David
They are both nice. The manix is more refined but I prefer the blade shape of the stretch. mumbo 5 by mumbojumboo, on Flickr
Whichever one you prefer! Personally I'm not overly worried about the weight of a knife and I like G10, it just adds a little class I think.
On my manix2 , i just loosened the pivot bolt . The blade needs to swing freely . Also different oils and lubes do make a difference . If you are using it for food preparation , Common mineral oil works just fine. Jake
1 of each of course. Why buy 1 when 2 will do? As always the question of which to choose if you absolutely must choose, comes down to intended use. For rough use, the lightweight offers better grip if you use gloves and so on. G10 is not exactly slippery, but the bi-directional FRN in the lightweight is extremely grippy. Buy G-10 if you will be cutting for extended periods or for finer work. It offers better ergonomics (Less hotspots). Of course you also have the versions with fluted titanium, for the more discerning gentlemen with larger bank accounts. Makes it a worse knife, but it looks so good! from my S-A-M-S-U-N-G S9+ via T-A-P-A-T-A-L-K
I have the manix 2 G10 version and like it. I'd get the Lightweight too if I didn't already have other Lightweight models for use/carry when wearing running style shorts. If I'm in cargo shorts, jeans or tactical style pants I'm going to opt for the beefier knifves. My large Lightweight knife is the original large Benchmade Freak, it's a beast of a knife but I dislike the plastic handle unless I really need something Lightweight.
