I just got the 5.11 water bottle holder on wednesday- really like it so far. Here's some thoughts, from the perspective of it being attached to the side of a backpack (GR1). Only thing I can't do is put bottle back in while it's on my back (would need a more structured rim and would not collapse when empty to accomplish that).

    Pros

    Fits 32oz Nalgene
Can open one handed (vs zipper)
    Secures with velcro + clip
    collapses when empty
Handy for snacks/sunglasses/misc items when not in use for water bottle
    'slicksticks' make MOLLE attachment easy
inexpensive vs similar from other brands

    cons:

since it collapses when empty, can't put bottle in single handed (need one hand to hold bottle, one to hold rim of bottle holder)

I really like how it practically disappears when empty.

One of the ITS Tactical Skeletonized bottle holders should do the trick.

Look at dump pouches. I researched the same basic problem some time back. Got one for each side of my bag. They stay rolled up when not in use. Available from the manufacture of your choice in any popular bag color. Multi use, and I have yet to find a bottle that will not fit.

Strange thought of the week: A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul. I guess that makes me just a giant Peter.

I just recently purchased a water bottle pouch for my All Hazards Prime. I couldn't find anything the same color so I decided to do all black pouches on my bag. I find it odd that even 5.11 don't make their water bottle pouch in Sandstone color being that it's a popular color.

To tell you the truth, I don't even like the design of the 5.11 carrier. I ended up getting a Condor for $18 shipped. I like that it has a smaller zipper pocket built in which I keep pills (Tylenol, Asprin, Sudafed and Antacids along with Iodine tablets for water purification.) The pouch itself is a perfect fit for a 32 oz Nalgene bottle with a Cap Cap and then a GSI Nesting Cup on the bottom. For less than $20, you can't beat it.

I've been using a Condor Products MA40: H2O Pouch. I was using it on a County Comm XL EOD Utility Bag I use 2nd carry on bag. While it worked well, I ended up taking it off. Trying to shove the bag under the seat ahead of me was just too hard.

ANY bottle? Really?? No they won't.:p I own two and while they do the job they're far from perfect. I really like being able reach back and pull my bottles out of regular holders. The ITS's top loop prevents that. Plus, they don't come in foliage!!!:D

Well, I'm not sure what bottles you're trying to carry. It fits everything from my plastic canteen I got in basic...all the way to a 32OZ Nalgene with everything in between. Maybe a handle of Smirnoff won't fit in there....but it's worked great for me. Mounted on the side of my T.H.E. pack, I've had no problems pulling just the bottle out of the skeleton.

You got it!!! Exactly what I was going for!!! I really like them on the MTB trails since my water stays put. Everything else though, I'd rather have normal holders. I hate having to take the bag off to get to my bottles. Maybe I'm lazy.
