So far I have not found anything. Any ideas? Thanks- George
give these a peek
TAD Gear Stealth Hoodie Reloaded - I think you might know the URL
condor soft with pit zips
The Marmot Sharp Point has pit zips... Marmot makes top notch gear.
The Mountain Hardwear Kramer also has pit zips...
Haglöfs Massif or Orca.
Patagonia makes a nice soft shell but it doesn't utilize pit zips, it uses the pocket to vent the jacket. The pockets sit higher (to clear backpack belts). They are also easier to open then pit zips. I will try to find a link.
I love my Sharp Point -- bought it because it was the only soft shell I could find at the time with zips, and it's turned out to be my most-worn jacket, period.
Thanks guys, anyone have the Condor? Is it the same company that makes the bags?
The jacket in that link doesn't have pockets under the arms. They're vents.
The North Face Denali Jacket has pit zips but it has a nylon upper. Not sure if it would still be considered a soft shell but I really like mine and the nylon upper (shoulder, chest, back area) helps cut the wind.
I just purchased a Marmot Sharp Point from Moosejaw (last years colors are on sale). The fit is perfect for me (6"2" 190 wearing a size L) and construction appears to be of very high quality. I was on the fence between this jacket and a Mountain Hardware Synchro, but the pit zips and the 1" longer sleeve tipped me to getting the Marmot jacket.
i have a north face apex valkyrie that is pretty nice.
+1 for the Tad SS's... best SS Ive seen out there as long as you dont mind the patches
Pit zips are a requirment for me. Does anyone else actually put their arms through the pit zips to cool off in the field or is it just me? ( you know, to wear it like a vest for a while) I know I look kinda funny with 4 arms and all..kinda flailin about... but it seems to work better than zips alone
Also keeps me from having to take the jacket off complete or remove my pack.
Check out Beyond Clothing.
I did that the few times when I wore my way oversized (for me) TAD anorak. It had massive pit zips. I could actually wear a multipocket vest underneath it and access all of the pockets via the pit zips.
But it was A) like wearing a tent and B) very sweaty & stuffy, even just walking around.
I have owned and abused the Marmot Sharp Point for 4 years now. Not sure where you are but I'm in GA and wear it all winter as my primary jacket. A bit warm for summer use even with pit zips.
I just received the Condor jacket today.
Initial impression is good, the jacket fits like I want it to, the pockets are well configured with D-rings and wiring ports on all pockets except the cuff pocket.
The chest pockets also have sub-pockets that should be useful. (One of my complaints with my 5.11 jackets is that everything in the chest pockets slides to the bottoms and bulks up.)
Yes, it has pit zips. they are 11" long
The material and construction appear good. I'll compare it to a 5.11 Sabre jacket tonight at my brother's house.
I'll try to get pictures up over the weekend.
Some buddies and I have the Condor on order.
Sorry guys, no pictures available.
A couple reasons really, it's a black jacket, so getting decent photos is difficult.
Also, although I do have a nice dSLR, and the ability to photograph the jacket, I cannot photograph it while wearing it, and have no-one else that the jacket fits that can model it for me to shoot... 8)
if you have the money then ArcTeryx. Nothing beats it.
I've come to prefer Westcomb jackets to my ArcTeryx.
