Currently I carry a small 2.5x17.5 "russian spy" monocular, which (surprisingly for its price) has excellent optical quality and is easy to focus for both close and far ranges.

But I want a similar sized monocular with larger magnification, 6x or 8x would be great.
There once was the ATN GoldenEye 8x but it's no longer available. There's also the Docter 8x21, but it's way too expensive for me.

So I'm looking for something of the size of these monoculars.
(But not a cheap imitation of the Docter 8x21, I have one [of the Nikula brand] and it's total crap. It doesn't give any more detail than the 2.5x17.5).

Is there anything like this out there?
Price range - less than 30$ if possible, I can maybe stretch it to 50$ if it's good quality.

How about this. The reviewer said it's not as high of quality as the Docter one you mentioned, but it's only a fraction of the cost.

Looks like another rebranded Chinese copy of the Docter design, much like my useless Nikula.
I would take one if it was a known and trustworthy brand, which "hammers" is not. (Is it this store's own brand? http://hammersbinoculars.stores.yahoo.net/ )

Would something like this work? It is a bit bigger than the other monoculars you are considering, but it seems to have good quality optics. Vortex makes many other models that are reasonably priced as well.

Thanks for your suggestions, but the Vortex is too big and the Minox too expensive.

ps: the monocular is 3 1/4 " in length and very lite to carry, cost can be found on their website www.brutonoutdoor.com.

REI carries the Brunton in bright orange if you're into that sort of thing :)

Thanks, I thought about it before, but the Brunton is too big for me.
Maybe if it was a little shorter and thinner it could be good.

This. Better than any cheapie Chinese or Russian monocular, and still affordable. Don't settle.

I have a Russian/eastern bloc ym8-2 monocular that my grandpa gave me years ago,

    on the left here

It's hard to find info on it, price etc, but its typically russian. Built like a tank and clunky, but works very well and feels mil spec :)
