I am a BIG fan of THIS pack! It is a molle waist pack with a carry handle called the "Molle Deployment Bag" - http://www.badboysupply.com/deployment_bag I got allot! of mileage out of this little bugger!
Also there is Eagle Industries, Tactical Tailor, and Mystery Ranch (all USA-made gear). Tactical Tailor has a "Removable Operator Pack" that is 1,178 cu. in. here: http://www.tacticaltailor.com/removableoperatorpack.aspx
Same website (www.badboysupply.com) "Rio Grande" 25 Liter 21" x 12" x 6", VERY light weight, compact and versatile!
Diamondback Tactical 3 Day Assault Pack is a great bag, it looks a lot smaller than it is, so it can hold what you need to without looking dumb while it's empty. I've been using it as my EDC for quite some time now. It's a great pack IMO.
After some extensive research, I've decided on the Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon II! The 5.11 RUSH 12 was a strong alternative, but I disliked the color options and the less attractive looks.
I ordered from OpticsPlanet.net because they had the lowest price I've found....dirt bags emailed me saying it was Out of Stock without letting me know beforehand. Great way to trick customers into ordering anyway.
Price I have currently is $76 shipped. Lowest on eBay is $80 shipped USPS. The biggest issue is I need UPS shipping, I can't receive USPS where I am.
If you would consider something non-tactical, you might try many of the very good hydration packs around and take out the water bag: http://www.rei.com/product/797726
Take a look at the LL Bean Carryall Daypack. A low profile, well organized ,comfortable small daypack. About 900cu. in. The only drawback is the smallish water bottle pockets. Its on-sale too.
