ESEE 3 or 4. Made in the U.S.A. Lifetime warranty. Sorta "tactical", I guess. Both the 3 and 4 work well in the field. I own and use both, but prefer the 3.

Bark River Bravo 1 in your choice of steels and scales, or Fallkniven Idun.

+1 on a Spyderco Street Beat. Got mine the other day and can't put it down. Well balanced and sharp. Used it for some help harvesting in the garden and in the kitchen with food prep and so far it's performed well. Wouldn't mind getting one of the Moran drop points either. A lot of good ideas above though, guess you'll just have to get one of each.

I had a Model XII made by Shadow knives. Great knife and under $200.

Sog Seal Pup or Seal Pup Elite (I have the Elite). Benchmade Nimravus (I had one when the scales were micarta). I've never owned one, but want one: Gryphon M10 boot knife. Spyderco Street Beat. Spyderco Street Bowie (both previously mentioned). Buck Pak-Lite (cheap and readily available). Gerber Guardian (may be legal issue to double edge)

I can't think of anymore, but I've owned or considered all of these.

SOG Seal Pup Elite or ESEE 4. I have both... SOG is my dive knife and ESEE is the general use do-all. Both are awesome.

i have a sog tech bowie i got from a friend that is very solid, and gets pretty sharp. on the other side of it, i have a sog aura seal, and while it looks kinda cool, i just dont like how thin the blade by the handle is, but the sharpener in the handle is kinda cool.

and completely away from what most like, i also got a bear grylls ultimate someting with a firesteel and a sharpener in the sheath, and its kinda cool. I like it a lot more that i expected i would.
