Nice. Thanks for sharing your take on the vert.

    tbzbbt,
When you do get one, we'll be expecting to hear what you think about it. :smile_coffee:

I just watched a video review of a guy on youtube doing fast draw demonstrations from a couple of the vertx slingpacks. Oh how I laughed. I'll try this technique next time I whip out my tactical ipad to share train times with my partner in under four seconds.

tbzbbt I'd recommend stepping into the main aisle before you rip the 'V' pull... ;-)

Nice setup bakpackr. Thanks for that pic...
It's helpful to keep in mind the origins of these packs by vertx.

Just a heads up for anyone still considering the Vertx packs....I've been noticing some good discounts on the Vertx Gamut and EDC Ready Pack. Summer pricing with some the independent etailers. Combining a sale price with additional 20-25% off with coupon, referrals or first time orders makes for a great deal.

Can you name a couple of the retailers where you're seeing these discounts? Thanks!

I've got the EDC Commuter Sling from the same line, it's holding up very well for me as far as durability. Not a single stitch out of place. I know it's not the same model you're looking for, but for what it's worth Vertx seems to give a :censored: about quality with these. Decent price too.

Just ordered a Gamut in Bracken from eBags. I use a Transit Sling as my EDC bag and have no issues with it. The light colored interior covered with hook/loop works well for me and, to me, the Transit holds more than it looks like it can. And when it's not full it maintains structure and doesn't flop around. We'll see in a week or so...

    Impressive...most impressive.
I've sensed a disturbance in the force. Now I'm looking at the Transit. I see what you did there.

I remain fixated on the quality of the Vertx product and have no difficulty in rationalising it. Gamut birthday hints have been dropped, including subliminal inclusion of the word in family discussions which run the whole gamut of topics. If that doesn't succeed then I will simply order the bag myself and suffer the birthday socks...

Well, that's disappointing. Received my Gamut today - loved the color, the quality is excellent, organization and pockets are great too. Unfortunately, like several people earlier in this thread, I discovered that the exterior promises much more than the interior can deliver. As a test I put my just-over-half-full Transit Sling inside the main compartment and could barely zip it closed. The Gamut goes back tomorrow. Such a shame because I really like the looks and it's comfortable to wear as well. The sides of the main compartment don't expand the same way they do in the Transit. What're ya gonna do. Back to the search, I may even go "tactical" - my son uses a Rush 24 and I really like that bag despite it's "I'm tactical" look. (BTW, he IS tactical, a USAF PJ, so he's allowed.) :)

Thats a shame. I was hoping a newer review would offer improved. Just to be sure, this was the gamut or the gamut plus?

It was the Gamut. I believe the Gamut plus would have the volume I'm looking for, but that's getting outside my budget. Right now the Rush 24 can be had for <$90 on Amazon (sandstone color only).

Well my birthday came and went and I'm a proud owner of a grey Gamut. I think it's great. The protection for the computer section is extreme but the overall thickness limits the capacity (see pictures below with Vertx Satchel and Maxped mini organiser or scale). Nevertheless, it looks cooler than a cool thing in the Arctic and is proving to be great work bag. I'm impressed. Tactically impressed obviously. A lot of space is taken up with the velcro CC panel, for which I am trying to use for another purpose eg mounting gear and other pouches.

OK after a month or so of use , some brief thoughts about the Gamut. Excellent build of backpack. It is dedicated to equipment-carry in my mind leaving very little capacity for clothes and soft items. Very stiff internally, meaning it is quite shallow. If you want to carry hardware, equipment or instrumentation then it is ideal: your gear will be securely-held and well protected. If however you are the average edc-er or weekend hiker then you will become frustrated at the lack of stretch and expansion at the expense of hard constraint and protection. While I was writing this I thought of it as ideal for drone-operators: covering rough ground with control units, batteries and delicate electronics...

I love this brand for its quality and attention to detail. The satchel is great, but the backpacks seem dedicated to serve a specific need- one that I don't have. That said, I'm convinced the Principal Briefcase will combine computer, documents and edc carry very well...

I also ended up buying this. I was able to get it for 40% off through a veteran discount, so I decided to give it a shot. It is a very nice bag but as others have said, the main storage does not expand very well. I needed this for a trip to England and the storage just did not work for me. In the end I decided to go with TAD EDC instead.

If you're coming to London I have seen 3 FAST Packs being carried this week so keep your eyes out. Back to the Gamut, this thread has totally put me off now...

Yeah i was hoping that it would work for me too. Especially since I could get a good deal. To clarify I bought the gamut plus. I do think the Gamut would work as a great minimalistic edc bag if you are not carrying a bunch of bulky items in it. In my case I just needed the room for jackets and other stuff for both my wife and I.

I'm going to use the Gamut for my clothes-I-am-stood-up-in two-night conference trip by aircraft. .I need to take a laptop; engage in tactical conversation and bring back brochures. I'll let you know how that works out...

*Sigh* I should have listened. I read everything possible about the gamut, watched every youtube video over and over. I thought I could make it work for me. Alas I can't.

I'm coming from a Rush 12. The stuff that I carry comfortably in my 12 is jam packed, and not easily accessible in the gamut. It also annoys me how it won't stand up on its own. I could keep going about what I don't like about the bag but it pretty much all mirrors what has already been said here. (Should have listened). Its going back.

Does anyone have alternative suggestions? What I want is:
-Something sleek and streamlined on the outside. No molle.
    -Laptop carry options.
    -External water bottle options.
-I like something low profile to the back. I don't want it to feel like a bulging turtle shell.
    -Good internal organization.
    -CCW options.

I did look at the evade, it's a possibility. The covert 18 looks too big for me.
